Special edition volume 17 to contain "Ilse's Notebook"

Kodansha Comics revealed at its panel at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday that it will release a limited edition version of the Attack on Titan manga volume 17, bundling the half-hour original anime DVD episode "Ilse's Notebook." The limited edition volume will ship on December 1.

The episode will have English subtitles.

"Ilse's Notebook" ("Ilse no Techō") is a prologue side-story about a member of the survey corps. It was released in Japan in 2013 with the 11th volume of the manga.

Director Tetsuro Araki, series script supervisor Yasuko Kobayashi, character designer Kyoji Asano, and the animators at Wit Studio reprised their respective duties from the television series. The episode also featured the same cast.

Kodansha Comics' associate director of publishing services Ben Applegate also revealed the variant cover for the special edition of Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan volume 16 at the panel. Tony Moore (The Walking Dead co-creator, artist for Fear Agent) is drawing the variant cover. The special edition of the 16th volume will also include a deck of playing cards.

Two more original anime DVD episodes bundled with the 13th and 14th volumes in Japan. The 15th and 16th volumes bundled anime episodes based on Hikaru Suruga and writer Gan Sunaaku's spinoff comic, Attack on Titan: No Regrets.
