Resident Evil 2 Remake in Development

Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi thanks fans for support in video

Capcom announced on Wednesday that it has approved a remake of Resident Evil 2 (Biohazard 2).

Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi appeared in a video to thank fans for their support, and to say it will be "some time before we can bring you an update on this project." Hirabayashi announced in July that he'd pitched the project to his boss.

Capcom released the original PlayStation game in 1998. It was also ported to Windows PC, Nintendo 64, and Nintendo Game Cube, and Sega Dreamcast.

Capcom will release a remastered version of its 2002 Resident Evil Zero game in 2016. It released a remastered version of the original Resident Evil game in January.

The latest game in the franshise, Resident Evil Revelations 2, received a physical copy in North America for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on March 17 and in Europe on March 20. The PlayStation Vita version will ship in North America on August 18.
