Studio Bones drama about relationship between male university student and girl who cannot walk

Anime Limited's All The Anime website has confirmed in a blog post that the Studio BONES films Josee, The Tiger and the Fish will be released in UK cinemas on August 11. The film's website, giving venues and showtimes, is joseefilm.co.uk/.

Update - In a Twitter conversation, Anime Limited added that more locations and screenings may be added in the coming weeks, and that it expects some English dub screenings to be added, but the company is currently looking into how many can be arranged.

Set in Osaka, the story centres on the relationship between Tsuneo and Josee. Tsuneo is a university student, and Josee is a young girl who has rarely gone out of the house by herself due to her being unable to walk. The two meet when Tsuneo finds Josee's grandmother taking her out for a morning walk.

Kotaro Tamura (Noragami, Noragami Aragoto directed the anime. Nao Emoto (O Maidens in Your Savage Season) drew the original characters designs, and Haruko Iizuka (Tamayura, Children of the Whales, Endro~!) designed those characters for animation, and served as chief animation director. Sayaka Kuwamura (Strobe Edge) wrote the script. loundraw (Tsuki ga Kirei, I want to eat your pancreas character design) was credited for concept design. Evan Call (Violet Evergarden, Schwarzes Marken) composed the music. Shochiku and Kadokawa distributed the film in Japan.

Tanabe published the original story in the 1985 short story collection of the same name. The story inspired a live-action film in 2003.
