Don't know if that rate is legit or not, but it could be possible if they only took cases like this to court if they knew they could win, Judges could pre pressured to give guilty verdicts, and I think they have a fondness for forcing confessions by detaining people. And it sure as hell doesn't sound consensual on her part to me, sounds like harassment. Also, if she is under the legal age, doesn't matter if it was consensual or not, still illegal. |

@Sewingrose
"...I think they have a fondness for forcing confessions by detaining people." Hmm...It seems that Japan's justice system has little desire of informing their accused citizens of their rights of their sort, if that's the case. |

Oops, I'm sorry. That's just a hyperbole of what people often say in brevity. ![]() The actual conviction rate is actually closer to 99.8%.
Exactly. And J-courts rely too much on confessions in lieu of evidence and where acquittals are considered harmful to the careers of prosecutors and judges alike. So it's a double-edge sword: prosecutors only bring cases they know they will win, but that also means any cases that there's any chance of losing, they would just let go. So if ya guys ever get caught being chikan in Japan, always remember to put some doubt --any doubt at all-- in the case, and you too can get away scot-free! ![]()
Japan does not have Miranda Rights. |
