Well, I'll spare any sarcastic comments about his series and simply say:
congrats Kubo! |

Do you draw comics or manga at all? I'm guessing no because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. 3 hours total for 15 pages? That would be INSANELY fast. Backgrounds or no backgrounds. You have to remember this includes 1. Writing and editing the script 2. Penciling the pages 3. Getting the pages approved by the editor 4. Inking the pages 5. Getting the inking approved by the editor 6. Lettering 7. Getting lettering approved by the editor It may not go in that exact order and I may be missing steps but that should be the gist of it. The whole process takes a lot longer than just three hours. Kubo may not be Oda and I'm sure glad he's not Oda has his own style and so does Kubo. But to act like Kubo is just absentmindedly drawing doodles is pure arrogance. Just because there's a lot of morons who think Oda can't draw because he has a cartoony style doesn't mean you should hate on Kubo because he doesn't draw backgrounds. Now obviously not drawing backgrounds is going to take less time than drawing backgrounds but there's more to drawing a comic than backgrounds. For example the characters. On average Kubo draws more detailed characters than Oda does. I'm not saying Kubo draws better characters that's up to opinion but a drawing of Ichigo is more detailed than one of Luffy. Also Kubo is very specific with the angles he chooses in fight scenes and there is a far more cinematic quality than a One Piece fight scene. Again I'm not saying one is better than the other One Piece is MEANT to have a cartoony feel after all. Actually contrary to what you may think in comics/manga LESS is MORE. Oda tends to cram the panels with as much as he can. Now if you like that then more power to you but it can get pretty easily jumbled. Whereas Kubo has less stuff and it is more precisely placed. In comics and manga you want to always visually keep your reader's attention. Something that is very wordy and gets in the way of the picture distracts the eye and loses the attention. There's nothing wrong with you liking Oda better. Again it's all just opinion but if you can't see the talent and effort that goes into Bleach or just about any other manga for that matter then you're an arrogant fool. Plain and simple. |

I didn't read that rant, mainly because you misread the guys comment, he said 3 hours of free time, not 3 hours spent on his work.
Although whatever one thinks of Bleach story-wise one can't fault Tite as an artist. |

I bet it doesn't last as long as his manga.

Hey, Congrads, Mr. & Mrs. Kubo! It's always nice to hear that a mangaka managed to balance a life besides his/her creative work!

Even if the original comment wasn't meant that way, I share mrsticky005's feelings and I understand where he's coming from. Many tend to downgrade Kubo for his lack of backgrounds, usually comparing him with Oda who tends to draw extremely detailed and complicated backgrounds, thus making Kubo a "lazy ass" for not doing the same. Honestly, as someone else said, if there's something you can't fault Kubo for, is for his artistic capabilities. Overcrowding the background with a shitload of stuff doesn't automatically make you a better mangaka

But Bleach is infamous for having the least amount of panels and least amount of dialogue out of the major Shounen Jump titles. This chart, if true, is pretty damning.
Anyway, I hope that Kubo can actually write relationships properly now that he's married. Ichigo and Inoue FTW. |

I'll stop the jokes. Not a fan of your work Kubo (in fact, I despise them) but nonetheless, congratulations and hopefully things work out for better or for worse. |

Wow, Kubo has gotten married? Weird but nonetheless, congrats I guess and hopefully, this will help Kubo develop the relationships between certain characters a whole lot more better.

Oda is a hack who also has plenty of assistants to draw backgrounds and whatnot, so don't kid yourself. Neither of them is Miura-sensei who draws his manga all by himself. |

Oda has assistants to draw backgrounds, you [insult removed].
Kubo can get assistants to draw backgrounds too. But he doesn't. Why? He has made it very clear since the beginning that this is an artistic choice. I am appalled by you [insult removed] who cannot even put aside your ignorance for a moment to just wish a man well on his married life. Disgraceful. [Mod Edit: First off, this thread has been dead for months, but it's just on the threshold for what would be consider a necropost so I'll let the post stand. However, insults and personal attacks are against the rules, so if you feel the need to do so then just don't post. - Keonyn] |
