I don't know why they didn't use spandex. It's not like the audience will think less of them. Hell, even the Spiderman movies stuck with spandex, and those were a relative success.

Yeah but only for Spider-Man we all remember Cyclops comment to Wolverine in the first
X-Men movie.

well a grown man wearing yellow spandex trying to be intimidating in real life would be ridiculous.

Superheroes are ridiculous by their very nature, something most directors seem to forget.The difference here is Super Sentai was originally live action, so spandex has already shown to work. I imagine it'll be just like the people who praised making monsters CGI rather than a rubber suit. People who aren't fans making the decisions and being valued over people who are already fans of the franchise. These reboot movies are never made for fans of the original franchise, hense the Transformers looking organic metal suits here.
