The trailer's funny, but I don't think it presented Gurren Lagann the way it really is. It only talked about robots, explosions, "the famous Gainax bounce" Laughing , etc - stuff which you can alread find in other series. The trailer didn't make it look unique at all.

Well it's not like Gurren Lagann is really using anything all THAT unique. The only thing that really makes Gurren Lagann unique is the characters.

But I still argue that for me personally this was the best series from Gainax I've ever seen. And I hate Gainax generally <3

"Burning manly passion" is oh-so-appropriate for GL it's not even funny.

If you're obsessive about tying everything back to 4chan terms then, yea perhaps I do.

Hey guys I have some concerns regarding the content of the anime show Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann. I hear from many sources that this show is one of anime's greatest shows ever and I really want to but the dvds coming out soon but I am worried if it has a lot of nudity, or sexual jokes, references, situations ect. This is partly because Gainax has done this series and their other shows (particularly FLCL) have some pretty mature content in them. Any help will be much appreciated. I don't hear too many bad things regarding this but I want to know for sure. I hear that episode 6 is the real only bad part of the show. Can anyone enlighten me on this, thanks.

There is no frontal nudity (though we do get a rather nice shot of Kamina's bald behind in one episode), though the infamous "Gainax Bounce" is present and accounted for. Yoko is basically the fanservice girl, though she is totally awesome for it. If you don't mind a lot of bouncing around and fanservicey camera angles, you'll have nothing to complain about.

Its not sexually explicit (or at least the first 9 episodes I've watched aren't) But it is "fan service"y to a rather extreme degree. But its done rather in-cheek. As is most of the content of the series.

However, in one episode (episode 6) there's a scene where the really young boy kid goes full frontal. Ding-a-ling and all. And this isn't unique to this show, off the top of my head I've seen similar stuff in Dragon Ball and Shin-Chan. Is it a cultural thing where showing naked young boys is okay?

And yes, Episode 6 is fan-service heaven. But its also comedy platinum.

'Girls Bravo' is, in today's terms, fan-service heavy. I know modern fans have a bit of a neo-Puritan vibe going on re. T&A in anime, but 'Gurren Lagann' is no where near any type of 'extreme' designation, and overall is pretty tame. The Yoko character sometimes get's the 'Naga' treatment, that's about as risque a trick as this series pulls. Compared to 'campy/adventure action' genre shows of the past like 'Photon', 'Dual', etc., this series is way lighter on the fan-service angle.

This show is pretty awsome, and from what I heard on what makes this show unique is the way it changes it's format and mood throught several episodes and arcs, like early arcs pays homage to those early 70's and 80's Super Robot mecha animes like Magzinger Z or Dangaioh, than the next min,it's like a real robot soap opera in the next several arcs kind of like Neon Genesis Evangelion, but yes this show is awsome and i'm enjoying it so far,and yeah,Yoko may be light on fanservice but it does'nt over-do it to the point to where she's shoved in the background because at least she can kick butt Laughing

I wonder if they would make another season of this show? Everybody seems to like it. I haven't seen it yet but I'm just going to wait a few weeks and watch it on scifi (I wonder why as didn't try to pick it up it seems like a better replacement for death note then Seirei no Moribito.)
