Paying the Bravely Default demo, lots of idling. Kinda annoying it needs to run for the timers to work.

So does anyone here play board games? I'd like to know if there are any scenes going on in Japan.

Oh, Lord, I wish--but wish--that Gaist Crusher would come to the U.S.! It's the closest thing I could get to playing that Kamen Rider card game in the U.S.!

Cheap, transforming toys that transform into barely-recognizable animals!

Silly costumes!

Bulky add-ons for your console!

The fun of slapping these gems and shouting "貧しい-翻訳の力は、私に来て!"

Gah, why am I such a man-child?!

Of course Millia's costume is what it is because of genre conventions, but I would still like to point out that she didn't actually choose her outfit, her handmade did. I know this because I literally watched the skit where that's explained today.

I don't see the point of the revealing outfit in Bravly, but I don't see the point in censoring them either. I think it's ridiculous, when we're censoring what is basically a bikini... but then, I don't think it's worth an uproar. It just always amazes me how some people are frilly when it comes to skin. Not nudity - skin! That you can see just about everywhere... Rolling Eyes

Actually, the dialogue and innuendo in the game wasn't removed. Unless it's removed from the US version despite EU getting it. I've got friends with both the JP and EU versions, everything is the same.

I've also gotten confirmation that the only place the changed ages are mentioned is in the profiles, nothing in the actual story says their ages at all (in either version).

Although I'm surprised the "microtransactions" "controversy" wasn't brought up.

Thanks for the heads-up on Nidhogg! I've been wanting to play that for years.

That's just the way America is. You can grotesquely torture and maim people in games by ripping their limbs apart and spilling their guts around, but just don't you dare show a woman in a bikini... someone might get offended Laughing Or maybe I should specify Nintendo. Lightning Returns is uncensored AFAIK, and that has some really lewd outfits. I think it's just Nintendo of America pushing their 'family friendly' image. Meanwhile Nintendo of Japan is having fun with pedophile hikers in Pokemon, transgender ghosts in Paper Mario, and all kinds of stuff Laughing I mean, sure, internet critics complain about that stuff, but it still comes out so who cares what they say? If anything they just give it more attention and boost likes like with Dragon's Crown. So long as people get their games uncensored, people can say whatever they want?

Huh. I'd heard that the dialogue had been rewritten somewhat to remove the innuendo. I haven't been looking for any specific examples though, because I don't want to be spoiled.

Ugh. I still remember skimming the comments on IGN after the Nintendo Direct where Reggie explained how Sleep Points work. The sheer amount of rage was...ugh.

Considering the number of games with women wearing even more ridiculous outfits than Bravely Default that are released uncensored or even produced in America, I'm guessing the problem wasn't that they were scantily-clad women, but that they looked like/were scantily-clad children.
I have the feeling that if this had been a PS3 game, using their typical "adult-shaped" models, there wouldn't have been any problem, but since the models are so childlike, the publisher changed it.
I don't have any problem with the censorship. It doesn't get in the way of the story, does it?

Slippery Sloop sure, but who cares? The outfits were crappy and stupid. I don't really care if they cleaned up bondage outfits on young looking cartoon characters. Not like they changed the game really.

It really has nothing to do with that since plenty of sexual things get made and released here. Plus we don't censor our porn. Some posters just want to turn this into how awesome and superior Japan is because they show girls panties.

Understand the need to censor the outfits to get more sales, but I wish they would have but more effort into the edit outfits. Basically, make new costumes, specifically the vampire one. Just doesn't make sense, and would have preferred if they did a whole new costume instead of MS Paint the flesh parts. Would have appreciate the extra mile.

I'm also surprised that alot of these news outlets aren't talking about the removal of Ringabel's speedo outfit. At least the female characters still have their costumes somewhat, but the whole speedo outfit is being removed and the character is male. I find that much more disturbing and perhaps places a double-standard that its okay for female characters displaying fanservice, but not male characters displaying fanservice.

Definitely a double-standard. I don't need to say why because everyone already knows.

This is relieving. I take your word over every else because your friend has experience with the JP game. A majority of the people online are just bitching without any proof. The age changes and alternate costume changes I can understand because of localization.

Yeah I would agree with this I think.

Anyway my only problem with Todd's sexism blacklist is I have yet to hear somebody explain how Dragon's Crown having sexy elf designs in its ultra-stylized Heavy Metal-esque fantasy aesthetic constitutes misogyny.

Grand Theft Auto making a point of being exploitative and tasteless doesn't diminish the fact that it's still exploitative and tasteless.
