For those who like Uta Koi and Chihayayfuru all the 100 poems are also translated in the 2 bilingual editions of the Chihayafuru manga. I thought it was a nice extra.

I can't believe how many people don't know what rape is.

Why do you keep saying that? Rape is unwanted sexual intercourse. There have been real life cases of "sexsomnia" where a person has raped someone in their sleep, they even use it as a criminal defense "sorry judge, I didn't mean to do it, I was asleep at the time" but you know what it would still be just as devastating to the victim as if the rapist was awake.

On a different note, I like that SAO is jumping the levels so quickly. I used to play MMOs a lot and grinding through 5~10 lvls is not interesting at all and I wouldn't watch a show that's all grinding.

It's not the jumping of the levels that bothers me...it's the jumping of the story.

The arcs could well be out of sequence.

Is it really that hard to understand that these three arcs have been moving us backwards in time?

But the story hasn't been jumping around, just moving forward. I don't see what is hard to understand about this. The main objection people have seems to be "I expected more stuff early on" which is...dumb?

Yes, but there was no intercourse, so it wasn't rape. And he was asleep, so it wasn't even attempted rape, because to attempt something is a conscious decision.

And for heaven's sake, he got clobbered over the head. I don't know why people are making such a big deal out of it when nothing happened and the guy got physically smacked. In any other show the guy would do something perverted then be punched into the sky or smacked with a fan or whatever and no-one would bat an eyelid. They might even laugh. But oh no, suddenly people want to treat a guy who did not deliberately do anything wrong as a serious case of actual rape.

It boggles my mind.

Stop arguing about rape. It's depressing and awful, stop it.

This isn't about people not understanding the show, it is about the story skipping ahead so fast that it is leaving a lot of plot holes and having terrible character development. It would be like making a Batman show where in one episode Bruce Wayne is a child going to a concert with his parents, and then the next episode he is a 30 year old batman cracking the heads of mobsters. WE NEED DEVELOPMENT. Like I said in an earlier post, I think the show has gotten slightly better as far as the story becoming a little more interesting in the last few episodes, but the character development is horrendous. If Sword Art Online continues in this way for several more episodes, it will be an entertaining but ultimately meaningless show, just like all of the .hack//sign variants.

On another topic, I have seen a lot of improvement over the last few episodes in Accel World, as far as that show taking a more interesting dark turn.

From what I've heard from novel readers, it should only go on like this for 1-2 more episodes before it returns to the main story. Of the episodes so far, only the very first episode is actually from the first novel. Everything else has been from side-story collection published much, muuuuuch later (volume 8, I think). So yeah, it should get better soon for people that don't like what its been doing.

You need to stop nitpicking the show's progression.

This is the sort of thing that has to be analyzed when its over, and its clear what the show was trying to accomplish. Not 5 episodes into a 26 episode story.

I swear, anytime someone tries to criticize one of your favorite shows, you immediately jump to the things defense like it's your damn child or something.

Lol, asking for any character development at all is "nitpicking"? You are being ridiculous. I don't care if this is your favorite show or something, but you need to be able to discuss reasonable criticisms without becoming upset about it.

There is character development, the entire point of these episodes has been to develop Kirito.

It may not be doing it the way you want it done, but it most certainly exists.

If character development for you means "show the main protagonist helping a bunch of hot girls," then by all means yes, this would meet your test. However, we still haven't learned anything about Kirito's background (except that he has a little sister who looks like one of the "hot" girls he helps), what his motivations are, and we have seen very little of his development as a player of the game because the story constantly skips so far ahead. It's like.. Ohhh Kirito is a level 40 guildie... OH WAIT, now he's level 78 and a superhero solo player on the front lines. What happened in between? That's for us to know and you never to find out. I'm sorry but this is not character development.

There is more to character development than backgrounds and power levels. And we know his motivation: to survive and finish the goddamn game.
