I understand how people would be taken aback by Queen's Blade (Extreme ecchi stuff and yuri undertones like Ikki Tousen) but I love ecchi shows.

Imho the seiyuu cast of Queen's Blade is very worth mentioning. It made me wonder how they were able to get Kawasumi Ayako, Hirano Aya, Kugimiya Rie and Yuko Goto to work on that.. thing.

This is exactly the reason why I decided to take a look at the series. I was curious of how much of a waste of voice talent this was considering the line up. (You forgot Noto Mamiko, Rie Tanaka... the entire list is pretty much top class voice actresses.) Even knowing how bad it looked from the screenshots, I couldn't even last long enough to find out. Everything about it was so horrible that I couldn't even make it past the two minute mark. Yea... Zac's score pretty much sums up this series. My memory of the series is already missing so I can't really demand that piece of my life back.

A fanservice-laden anime has got to have at least a semi-decent plot or it might as well have been hentai.
This series pretty much should be labeled porn. Just from the screenshots, it seems to fit the definition.

You clearly are missing why people aren't liking it.

Seeing that I disagree with 95% of anything that comes from Zac's typing fingers, I'm expecting K-ON to be gold. That'll have to wait until after work though...

Though I will take the advice on Queen's Blade though. Is it really that bad? I've been waiting to fill that empty void that's been around since Gun-doh Musashi Very Happy

You find it offensive to use a very mild insult derived from a Christian based society. I find it offensive that people get so up in arms and need to feel so superior that they feel they should dictate what others say, think and do.

He's going to discover quite a difference between him and ikillchicken whenever the opportunity arises.

I knew that Zac was going to preview Queen's Blade, boy was I right. But hey, the anime has some potential if Carlo rated it a 0.5 out of 5, right? Smile Is it just me, or has the review team gotten smaller? I could have sworn that there used to be two or three more people doing reviews, besides Key.

Coore! I knew the recession was bad, but I didn't realise it would be this bad. Zac your rating for Queen's Blade was pure brilliance. I can only hope the game is better than that, though tis another valid reason for me to never play video games. Real life is much more painful, and the payoff much more satisfying.

It's not based on a video game, it's based on a table-top role playing game (i.e. D&D type thing).
Basically the original work was a bunch of very glossy books that had lots of ecchi art for the characters and that explained all their moves/the rules of play, etc. Frankly there's nothing wrong with the game at all, it's pretty standard table-top RPG stuff in terms of turn based attack, defend, hit points, etc. Take away the ecchi character designs and it's nothing special.

I'm not sure I'd call it a roleplaying game, per se, but it certainly contains elements of RPGs. The older American version of the game wasn't about the ecchi (in fact, IIRC, the art was standard crappy fantasy art), so I suspect its renewed popularity in Japan is based largely on the art.

I just have a general complaint/observation:

As this is just a preview guide, I don't really think it's appropriate to say "Reviews available now:" in the little featured box on the main page - as these are just impressions of an anime based of 1 or 2 episodes. Perhaps change it to "Previews" or "Impressions" available now.

I'm doing a bad anime panel for Yasumicon 2009. I've been trying to avoid unlicensed series because I want to be able to tell people where to find these atrocities (if they dare) and since we're affiliated with Florida International University we can't advocate illegal downloading. But I'm thinking Queen's Blade might at least deserve some kind of (dis)honorable mention.

Yeah, Queen's Blade is pretty much GARBAGE. The only this it has going for it is the high end voices and some of the designs. Maybe the music, but the animations is pretty bad, the story...killed itself, and the battles are lame.

I agree completely with Zac's rating for Queen's blade. How can people put this crap out on the air. *sigh* It's been getting harder to find decent anime these days. Most of the stuff out there just panders to a specific audience and do not focus on making a good series.

At least pretend like you read the frontpage introduction.

New reviews will be posted as they're written, and new critics will be added as they hop in; look for Theron Martin and Casey Brienza to start soon!

There is that, plus there's also the fact that they offer scores for these new series. That's really what I meant by a flawed way of doing things. I mean, sure these are early impressions, but how many of these people are gonna tough it up and watch the whole thing?

Re QB: Oh well, it's a recession so now we have hentai getting into mainstream anime. Zac's rating was hilarious.

Hopefully someone else reviews K-On! besides Zac. Laughing

I wouldn't watch Queen's Blade in it's entirety either. If the first episode is horrible, why watch the rest? If you found the first Wheel of Time book horrible, would you read everything just to "give it a chance"? I wouldn't, I really doubt anyone would.
