I am very looking forward to Golden Time this week to be honest. Not too sure on White Album 2 yet though. I did watch the other White Album series awhile ago but wasn't too into it.

Looking forward to Golden Time even more after that preview! It looks like a pretty sweet little rom-com and the fact that it's set in college and not high school immediately moves it up on my list. Also curious about the fact that apparently Nana Osaki appears in it...? Laughing

I was really looking forward to golden time until I saw Chiaki Kon was directing it. The only way I see her still getting work after the horrible work she has done on when they cry (umineko in particular) in addition to devils, arcanea famila, and more is because she is one of the only (if not the only)directors in the anime industry who would accept the position and would be ok with being type cast. Please see my post below for why I feel she is almost as bad as Shyamalan.

Actually the more I learn about the people behind it the more worried I get. As the series composition scares me as well. and JC staff is really hit or miss.

Yes, the shape of her fiddly bits must be why she gets work. Couldn't possibly be that her shows have been financially successful.

Hmm, the only thing that stands out to me about Golden Time's premise is that it's set in college. I have very limited personal familiarity with the works of the most important staff members... at the very least, I like the character design (you can see a resemblance to Hasegawa's prior work on Utena's characters if you squint!) and I have no qualms with J.C. Staff being on board.

Oh, there's at least one other female director I can think of off the top of my head-- Sayo Yamamoto, director of The Woman Called Fujiko Mine and Michiko & Hatchin. And Chiaki Kon is getting more work because she's a woman in the Japanese animation industry? Hahaha

Riiiight and bad male directors like Bob Shirohata get work because they suck producers dicks ,I suppose. And yes a talented female directors like Rie Matsumoto,Hiroko Utsumi,Naoko Yamada,Sayo Yamamoto and Soubi Yamamoto dont exist ....totally.I wont deny the fact that there is small number of female directors but the ones we have are mostly good

Yes, the shape of her fiddly bits must be why she gets work. Couldn't possibly be that her shows have been financially successful.

I said that is the only one I could think of. And that is what she is type cast as in my oppion. Look at all the projects they put her on. Otome game adaptations, Yaoi, obviously BL cannon fodder, and romance stories.
Like it or not mean and women think differently it is not about genitalia but ontology and understanding what is attractive to the target audience.

That said I would LOVE it if Rie Matsumoto,Hiroko Utsumi,Naoko Yamada,Sayo Yamamoto or Soubi Yamamoto did this show instead of Chiaki Kon since I consider Kon to be one of the most incompetent directors I have seen. I don't normally pay attention to directors but I make a rule of avoiding Chiaki Kon .

I am sorry that my lack of directoral knoweldge offended many people that said female anime directors are as rare as married anime directors who have children. that is a major reason why the director for bunny drop got selected, and it turned out great because he knew what he was doing, because he understood what the series was trying to communicate. Type casting is not necessarily a bad thing.

Kon does not even try to understand what a series is trying to say before turning out episodes I think and that is the worst thing about her directing I think.

I have no problem with female directors AT ALL i do have a HUGE PROBLEM with very bad directors who keep getting work, especially work that could otherwise be excellent.

If kon will take the yoai, probably not good otome game adaptations then fine but giving her something like golden time is a major waste in my opinion and it should go to someone who could actually do a good job with the material not however they could get and type cast as OH She'll understand it.Since I stand by my statment that the only way kon got the job was type casting and them not finding anyone better who would take the job for what they asked.

And I would be saying basically the same thing if micheal bay directed the live action akira movie that has been in development for YEARS.
This is not some idiotic she is a girl she must suck argument this is a this direct sucks and got type cast to a show that would be probably be far better without her influence.

If that was the only reason you could think of, please expand your mind. Going straight to, "She only gets works because she's a girl," is highly sexist.

Which one was Higurashi?

And you do realize that the Japanese don't share the bizarre Western notion that only girls like romance stories/

Sorry, that's not one of the shows we have lined up this season. We can only take what the Japanese producers will give us, so we're limited in our ability to choose.

I don't really have any interest in watching Golden Time (which incidentally sounds like a fetish porno for R Kelly). But it's extremely refreshing to see any show that isn't stuck in highschool.

The one she got pulled from and was barred from ever working on again because she did such a horrible job on umineko. After working on when they cry for 78 EPISODES SHE WAS BANNED from working on it.and higurashi does rely on a lot of romance tropes.

You obviously did not read anything I said in my last response when I said I would LOVE for anyone but her, ESPECIALLY the director of fujiko mine to direct golden time instead of her.

She is one of the most incompetent directors I have seen.
Because she starts directing episodes of the series without making any visible attempt to understand the material, I like hetalia and I have read all the manga and watched all the episodes but hers were just horrible and I thought that before I knew she directed them.
The major problems I have with her are as follows
She Paces the series so quickly that any attempt to generate emotion or comedy in many cases.

She can not budget a show effectively and can not even hide the fact that she can not unlike other directors.

Makes constant use of fan service to "supplement" the story when it does it a major disservice, and would work if she just told the story the way it was meant to be told.

I could keep going on and on about why she is one of my most hated directors but I do not want to disrail this thread. But I still mantain that she has very few positive qualities to her directing and the only reason someone would want to hire her is if they are looking for a low budget director to type cast for their series. and I think her record of shows proves that. I also clarified earlier that she was more then likely the only director that would do the show for what they offered and felt they could type cast for the series.

If anyone would like to point a reason why she would be a good candidate to direct golden time and have a discussion about her as a director then by all means. but please do not accuse me of being against her because she is a female when I give very exact reasons why I dislike her directing and think she is a bottom of the barrel director just like the director for Little Busters.

Do not make this about personal attacks but keep it to the actual discussion please. That should be possible if you have a problem with what I am actually saying.
