Out of all of Nintendo's franchises, Metroid is the only one that I think can work for live-action. And it doesn't take much to play Samus (since she's always stuck in a suit). So I'm looking a bit forward to this, especially since it's about time Nintendo forgot Super Mario Bros. (like most people thankfully have).

Metroid would work better as an anime, since we already have a bunch of manga adaptions

I wouldn't say no to her playing the MC in a Metroid film, but can she act?

Barely, she's a bit wooden in most of her acting roles. However, that would be fine for Samus, I think most of us want her to be a badass with no drama or emotional baggage which would fit Rousey perfectly.

I think an ideal movie would be just solid alien killing action like the game with lots of running and gunning and little dialogue. No overdone backstory or moral dilemmas.

Didn't work for the Hitman films don't think that would work for a Metroid film

Whilst Rousey might be able to portray Samus in an animated feature (and by portray, I do mean motion capture), her lack of experience and blandness makes her an incredibly unappealing choice.

Realistically, you'd want an industry veteran; someone like Sigourney Weaver. And that ties you down to an an animated/mo-capped series due to her age.

Sorry Rousey, I appreciate the sentiment, but you don't have the chops. Not yet.

EDIT; Also, funny thing. This has been floating around for days and ANN has only just picked up on it?

Umm, Samus is over 6' (6' 3" according to the wiki). Rousey is 5' 7".

I was going to suggest Jessie Graff, but she's only 5' 8". I guess she just looks taller because of the difference in their builds.

Jessica Chobot did a decent job in 'The Sky Calls'.

Or just make it all CG and have Jennifer Hale provide the voice.

That doesn't sound anything like Metroid. That sounds more like those awful Resident Evil action movies.

Rousey is way too big/buff to play Samus anyway. Samus is supposed to be svelt and agile.

She's basically a female version of Steven Seagal. The idea of doing a Metroid film in general is just stupid. The story for it doesn't really have a whole lot to it,and I certainly can't see it working as a film.

As much as I like Ronda Rousey, I don't think she would fit the persona of Samus well. Samus is recognized more for her agility than sheer power.

That's true, she does tend to utilize nimble athleticism as opposed to brute force.

But wasn't there a Metroid movie that was stuck in Development Hell almost as long as Duke Nukem Forever?

I'd watch a live action movie no matter how bad it is, as long as they don't ruind Ridley.
