Agreed on Gedo Senki. It's not going to turn into a classic; with age, it will just get... older.

And while I'm not enraged by Ghibli letting Goro develop a new project -- it's their money, and there is an outside chance he could do better with something original -- usually a director with an awful debut is not suddenly going to turn in a masterpiece later no matter how much "practice" you give him. Directing is not a rote skill. Even if a film debut is technically unskilled, it can still be successful if the director is truly talented. But with Gedo Senki it was the opposite.
