From all the anime I've seen there's a wide variety of classic music played within it. Such as a few songs appearing in End of Evangelion and even in Cowboy Bebop. As a seventeen year old it seems odd to me how people can enjoy music which talks about using women as objects and killing cops. But that's kind of off topic... anyway sometimes I think that some anime may even be inspired by classic music and it seems to reflect on the mood and emotion of events that are happening while the music is playing. Sorry that I got off topic a bit but it's all good. Very Happy

Oh, and if you can name some classical music which is used in anime that would be good too. I know that the Waltz of Flowers was used in Cowboy Bebop - Toys in the Attic.

Richard Wagner's "Die Meistersinger von Nürnburg" overture was used in Boogiepop Phantom, most prominently as the background music for the next-episode previews.

Not sure if Wagner's classical or not (would a composer from the 1800s be considered classical?), but it's got that sound to it.

I guess classical is "technically" 1750-1820 or so, but, eh, if it has an orchestra and isn't wildly modern, let's call it classical. =)

Hm, of stuff I've seen recently: the R.O.D. OVA has a few bits of Beethoven's 9th...live-action Sailor Moon has Dvorak's New World Symphony, Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, and Chopin's Revolutionary Etude, Winter Wind Etude, and Fantasie Impromptu.

I thought there was one in Kenshin...can't think of it right now. It played in episode 31..."A Wish Unrequited."

Nagisa: Wagner is "classical"...during the Romantic period of music history.

*Looked up the title of the song in Kenshin:
"Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo" by Pietro Mascagni

**Ok. MY BAD. Wagner would be a "Romantic" composer. He isn't classical. "Classical" comes right before "Romantic."

Well, for an odd watch, I suppose you might want to check out Violinist of Hameln. Classical music plays a very large role in it. I don't know that it will ever be licensed, but if you get the chance, take a look at it.

PGSM also has Mussorgsky's A Night on Bald Mountain.

In Piano, Miu plays Chopin's Piano Waltz no.7.

My favorite from End of Eva was Verdi's Requiem.

Hmm, what else...

EDIT: Amano uses classical stuff all the time on his soundtracks...Princess Nine had a few movements of a Schubert trio, and Giant Robo used somebody's Dies Irae, though I can't remember which one...

EDIT 2: Bebop - Ave Maria

EDIT 3: Patlabor WXIII had the coolest Beethoven sonata ever, second mvmt of the Pathetique.

I almost forgot, in Eva - Death and Rebirth they play like classical-like music everytime they introduce one of the four children. All I remember is that it's stringed instruments so i'm not 100% sure that it was classic. I wish I could remember what songs they played. There were 4 in all.... crap, I have one of the songs in my head but I can't remember the name, oh well.

Evangelion has quite a few:

Beethoven Symphony No. 9
Handel's Messaiah

Death and Rebirth has the following:
Bach's Partita No. 3 in E Major (Gavotte)
Bach's Suiten fur Violoncello

There's probably more, but that's what I can think of off-hand.

FLCL has Kabalevsky's Dance of the Comedians

The End of Evangelion soundtrack features II Air (Orhestral Suite No.3 in D-Major, BWV.1068) and Jesus Bleibet Meine Freunde (Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben BWV.147). Not sure who composed them, though...classical's unfortunately not my strong point (it's good music, but putting composers to pieces throws me).

Bach =)

Kare Kano has a Beethoven symphony...man, my memory sucks...

Tylor has Rossini's William Tell Overture.

Excel Saga - more Beethoven's 9th.

RahXephon - Borodin's Polovtsian Dances from the Prince Igor opera.

Doesn't Harlock Saga have some of Wagner's Ring Cycle stuff?

EDIT: Love Hina - Night on Bald Mountain and a bit of Gymnopedie...why wasn't that on the CD?

I know there are more I've heard...but I've just wasted an hour thinking about this thread, so maybe later ;p

Oh yeah! It began with Seigfreid's Death and Funeral March, the same piece at the beginnng of Excalibur. Great piece.

When did Gymnopedie play in Love Hina?
