but only the really brave will admit to liking Unlimited SaGa

Well, in that case, then I'm the bravest damn toaster in the entire world, because Unlimited SaGa is one of my favorite RPGs, Heidi. I mean, seriously, can people just finally grow up & leave this damn game alone? What benefit is there in continually poking fun at it? What, does it earn you points at the cool kids' table? The way people constantly belittle it, you'd think that it did personal harm to them, or something.

It's especially amusing, because SaGa: Scarlet Grace totally carries over some elements of Unlimited SaGa, like the streamlined (read: menus only) way towns are handled (the world map is honestly just like US, only you manually go to places), the focus on more personal stories for each of the playable characters, & the straightforward nature of it all. Hell, there aren't even any dungeons in SaGa: SG! I'm really enjoying my time with the game, though, & I am curious to see how professional outlets wind up reacting to it, because it totally isn't your standard JRPG, just like a SaGa game should be.

Yeah, quite the week.

-Super Mario Maker: Hope they keep the updates going; it's always amazing to see what players make out of this.

-RE3: To be honest, I find RE3 to be better than 2, mostly because it just does more interesting stuff with the series. RE2 was essentially just a structural retread of the first game while RE3 did a LOAD of new stuff. For one, you actually went out into the city instead of being stuck to one location thus you were really able to get a feel for the scale of the outbreak. You're not just in the police station, you're going out and seeing just how much Raccoon City has gone to hell and the locations are varied and interesting with the various districts, the clock tower, the park, and the factory.

Plus there was a lot of reasons to replay it such how events would go differently depending on where you went first, randomized items, and the Mercenaries giving you rewards to use in the main game. My big question is how the Nemesis is going to be handled because the point of him is that he's Mr. X but WAY more aggressive and dangerous. For crying out, he's got a rocket launcher! As such they need to make sure he's more terrifying than Mr. X but also not tedious to deal with. I also hope they bring back rewards for temporarily beating him. Still, very interested in this, even with Carlos being completely unrecognizable (probably because they got an actual Latinx model for him)

(P.S. The Game Awards are insufferable cringe and Geoff Keighley is an insufferable hack)

-Vanquish: Gah, this was such an underrated classic! When every third person shooter was doing the dull cover-shooting mechanics, thus turning the genre into a purely reactionary game of whack-a-mole, this really took the genre into high-octane territory that rewarded skillful use of the boosters and aggression. Sure, cover mechanics were there, but only to catch your breath or avoid a REALLY nasty attack before going back into the fray. Weapons were also really fun (though I felt the shotgun needed some more kick) and that they unique melee moves led to some interesting applications. There are flaws of course, like how you can't deactivate the Emergency Bullet Time when out of danger or how the came is pretty short and the story leaves off on a BS "to be continued" cliffhanger. Still, it deserves a second chance and maybe the dream of a sequel. Also, apparently it's coming in a Vanquish-Bayonetta 1 bundle

For everybody hoping for a RE3 announcement at the Game Awards, I got some bad news. In a Reddit AMA today, Geoff Keighley said that it wouldn't be there. I mean, he could be lying, but you should probably lower your expectations.

The VGA are such a joke,I don't know why they still bother with trying to make it a thing. I'm really excited for that RE3. Original was actually scary with Nemesis chasing you around. I assume they'll probably have a hiding system of some sort since he's even more aggressive than Mr. X. I really I'm curious to how that they'll handle that aspect of that.

Part me wonders when the honeymoon with the VGA ended cause I remember the original version of the awards (the one that was televised on Spike TV) which had a lot of fluff and silliness that tuned some people out. The new one tweaked some aspects which people liked now all of sudden people hate this one too.

No matter what iteration the VGAs have taken they've always been really bad. They're better than they used to be where, but they're still bad. They clearly want to be the video game equivalent of the Academy Awards, but I've never felt like there has been any sort of reverence for the medium during them. They're also a complete mess with pacing and presentation, often rushing through a lot of awards and trying to get to the next reveal or whatever.

Wow, a shout out to Binary Domain, and a backhand remark of probably the worst game on the PS2 and maybe one of the worst games ever made in Unlimited Saga. I feel like this column was salvaged.

BD is a nice kind of action-oriented rpg shooter version of Beyond Human, that came out like 5 plus years before it. I still need to go back and finish it though.

Unlimited Saga is dreck, I will give it credit that visually its interesting? and thats probably the closest I will come to complimenting it, and Saga series as a whole has some decent games; but US was literally unplayable. The game was so poorly scaled, that I breezed through the entire game all the way to the final boss, only to find out I literally couldn't beat the boss due to that idiotic LP system, and my last save came at a point that I couldn't back track, so I literally couldn't beat the game.

Regarding RE, honestly RE3 wasn't that good, and no new coat of paint will help it. If Capcom was going to do anything, Id like to see a full version of RE Ghost, the supernatural version of RE that was floated around either before or after RE2. I think all I have seen is a video of Leon being attacked by floating dolls in a room. After that if you are going to remake anything, Code Veronica is better served.

All award shows are kinda just fluff and marketing. No sense taking them super seriously. VGAs no different. But hey, shoutout to Death Stranding, starring Geoff Keighley being nominated for numerous awards at Geoff Keighley's Video Game Awards. I'm sure that's not a thing worth looking at Laughing

RE3 was a quick asset flip of RE2 back in the day for some easy money. Makes sense they'd do the same here when they can put REmake 3 on the same engine as REmake 2.
3 is one of my favorites. It's not as plot-heavy as 2 or CV, but gameplay wise it's a lot more fun and has fun variety in terms of gameplay and location. And despite already knowing they were going to heavily change the characters' designs like REmake 2 did, it doesn't make it hurt any less. At least we still have the real Jill in Teppen.

After all the amateur hour mistakes in the original Persona 5 localization (incorrect prepositions and other basic English grammar issues are all over the place, but more importantly, the script trips over itself every time someone uses a word more than three syllables long and ends up saying the opposite of what it's supposed to) there's no way I'm gambling on the English release of Royal.

I'm glad that someone still thinks that Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is a good game. I still think it's a great game myself even it doesn't follow the formula of other Zelda games.

....The original version of RE4 which they jettisoned specifically because of the supernatural elements?

- SMM 2: this update was a surprise, I hope that other classic 8-bit Nintendo characters will be added. I can imagine a Samus, Pit, and Kirby mode. Also, I just finished Zelda II this year and enjoyed it, it would be great if Nintendo could make a remake or a sequel with modern mechanics, a sort of Metroidvania Zelda would be cool.
- RE3 remake: I never completed the original RE3, but I'll try to do before this remake comes out. I think Jill looks great, and I wonder how what changes are going to implement to the game, like what they did with Mr. X in the RE2 remake.

I picked up Saga Scarlet Grace, and I love it. The turn based battle system is great, and the event system is really rich and interesting (I know there were a lot of events that I missed or skipped on my first playthrough, and I'm looking forward to trying more of them out on my second). It's really fun to wander around and see what happens. Also, the worldbuilding is pretty great.

Doesn't Vanquish already have a remaster on steam?
