How much do you wanna bet that the entire music score will be replaced?

I kinda doubt it. The last movie Netflix did was mewtwo and that had a lot of previous score they could have worked with but they decided to leave it. I think it’s a toss up.

At least some of it is gonna be thrown out, because Koko has way more insert songs than your usual Pokemon movie.

It's a toss up. Mewtwo film aside (which was a very unique case), Power of Us (Minna no Monogatari) kept the entire Japanese score except for the Japanese-language insert songs. They even left in the track where Lugia's Japanese theme from movie 2 plays as it appears.

Is Billy Kametz once again playing a science guy who turns out to be a villain? Never thought that would be his typecast.

It would be nice if they would also include the Japanese audio track and that it wasn't just a one time only thing for Mewtwo nostalgia hype but I probably shouldn't expect it.

Them keepin' the original score is always a toss up. I however would love if there was legal way to watch the original version y'know without have to import but I feel like not too many people are asking for it outside a small group of dedicated fans. Like it has become industry standards release came out with both an original and localized audio track, I don't know why Pokemon can't follow suit. Even other toyetic anime like Yu-Gi-Oh, which I get is a Jump property but still, and even Medabots have now since come out with their original sub being at the very least available. Viz still continues to pump to dub only releases. Again, there probably isn't much a demand for it but still.

I assume they don’t include Japanese audio in part because TPCi still makes video/timing edits to the show. Even if it’s not a lot, the company probably likes having the leeway to do it.

It’s also just how they’ve always done things. It’s the same for the music. They’re no longer obsessed with filling in every moment of silence like 4Kids was, but they seem to hang on to their own composers just because. There’s probably a contract in place for whoever it is to redo all the music, and TPCi haven’t ever questioned whether it’s a worthwhile expense after all these years.

I agree that it’s silly at this point. The show is produced with the intent of being distributed worldwide. There’s nothing that needs to be edited out for other markets in this day and age.

Licensing the Japanese music is cheaper for TPCi than making their own (and they still license a small handful of music content), but they're in a unique position where they have contracts with the rest of the world to only use their music, meaning whatever music is made for the English dub is what most of the rest of the world must buy the license to. In the end, TPCi makes money off of this arrangement as opposed to just spending it on the Japanese soundtrack. They're the only company that still works like this. If they were to just use the Japanese soundtrack, but force the rest of the world to use their music, it would be an obviously garbage thing to do, so they don't.

That said, organized demand where they can see it has a much better record of making change. Despite the arrangement, they probably won't be making a whole lot, but if fans were willing to make big purchases on a limited series set or something with Japanese audio available, that could make a pretty penny. It'll depend on how confident they are in making money (or saving the brand if it becomes a controversy).

The movies have generally been faithful dubs for a long while now with nothing of significance cut or altered visually as far as I know. But even back when 4Kids was making much more heavier alterations to the Pokemon dub than TPCi, they still kept a lot of the Japanese score for the TV show mixed in with their own original tracks. It was only the movies where 4Kids did a total rescore and they started using the Japanese score less in later episodes, though 4Kids did keep the Japanese score for Jirachi Wish Maker. It's only been after the TPCi take over that they haven't been using any of the Japanese score at all or they only use one or two tracks like they did one time in Pokemon Journeys or it's kept for a one off movie like The Power of Us.
