One Piece Unites Japan, Senegal World Cup Fans
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
There are things in this world that unite people regardless of nationality or spoken language, like the love of sports, and in this case, anime. Japan and Sengal faced off against one another during the World Cup soccer tournament on Sunday. While opposing sides' players were neck and neck throughout the match, their fans bonded over the theme song for One Piece.
Twitter user Sulo posted a video of himself singing the series' first opening theme "We Are!" by Hiroshi Kitadani with Japanese soccer fans. Sulo speaks French and originally hails from Senegal but currently resides in the United Kingdom. His video has garnered 4.8 million views so far.

Sulo and his new compatriots each traveled thousands of miles to encounter one another in Russia. A language barrier and sports rivalry didn't stop the fans from sharing a moment of joy, all thanks to One Piece.
Oh, and as for the soccer match? It ended in a draw.
