Right Stuf to Release Gundam Wing on Blu-ray, DVD
posted on by Karen Ressler
The official Twitter account for Right Stuf's Nozomi Entertainment announced on Thursday that it will release Mobile Suit Gundam Wing on Blu-ray Disc and DVD this year. The release will include cast and creator interviews, for which fans can submit questions in a survey. The survey is collecting questions for voice actor Hikaru Midorikawa (Heero Yuy), director Masashi Ikeda, writer Katsuyuki Sumisawa, character designer Shūkō Murase, and producer Hideyuki Tomioka.
The series premiered in 1995 and ran for 49 episodes. In 2000, it became the first Mobile Suit Gundam series to premiere on television in the United States. Bandai Entertainment previously released the series in North America on DVD and VHS. The series is available streaming with both English and Japanese audio on Hulu.
The story takes place in the year After Colony 195, when war between the Space Colonies and Earth has begun. To give the colonies an edge, they send 5 young soldiers, trained to perfection, to earth in the most powerful of Mobile Suits—Gundams. With their arrival, the tide of the war changes as they battle against the Earth forces and the Colonies of their origin.
The series spawned the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz sequel OVA, which was later compiled into a film. The series also inspired a number of manga adaptations, including Gundam Wing: The Glory of Losers, which North American publisher Vertical recently announced that it has licensed.
Sunrise and Right Stuf announced their partnership in 2014 to release the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise in North America.
