Thermae Romae's Mari Yamazaki Draws Manga About Bulgari Founder for Vogue Japan

Sotirios Voulgaris travels back in time to Ancient Rome to discover origin of Bulgari jewelry

The official website of Condé Nast Japan's Vogue Japan magazine revealed last Friday that Mari Yamazaki is drawing a new manga titled BVLGARI o Tsukutta Otoko - Sotirios Voulgaris (The Man Who Made BVLGARI - Sotirios Voulgaris). The manga's two-page preview chapter is already available on the website, and three chapters will serialize in the magazine's September to November issues, and will also appear on the website on July 28, August 28, and September 28.

The manga will center on Bulgari founder Sotirios Voulgaris as he travels back in time with three Japanese actresses to Ancient Rome to discover the origin of Bulgari jewelry. The preview chapter has Voulgaris meeting the Roman goddess Aurora in the Baths of Caracalla, where the mosaic floors inspire the Bulgari founder to make the Divas' Dreams high jewelry line.

Yamazaki ended her Thermae Romae manga in March 2013. The manga inspired a television anime mini-series, two live-action films starring Hiroshi Abe and Aya Ueto. Yen Press publishes the manga in North America, while Discotek licensed the anime in North America. Yamazaki's Steve Jobs manga about the Apple company co-founder is approaching its "climax" in June.
