IG Port Establishes Digital Publication Subsidiary
posted on by Karen Ressler
The board of directors at IG Port — the parent company of animation studios Production I.G, Wit Studio, XEBEC, Signal.MD, and publisher Mag Garden — voted on October 20 to establish a new subsidiary aimed at expanding digital publication. The company's tentative name is "Lingua franca."
The company was scheduled for establishment on November 1 and is headquartered in Tokyo at the same address as IG Port and Production I.G. It has a capital stock of 75 million yen (about US$659,000) and is wholly owned by IG Port. 30-year-old Kyōhei Shinfuku, who previously worked as the supervising editor on Mag Garden manga such as The Ancient Magus' Bride, will serve as representative director.
The I.G holding company was established in 1987, and it changed its name to IG Port in 2007 when it restructured following its acquisition of Mag Garden. In addition to its Comic Garden print magazine, Mag Garden operates various digital manga outlets such as Blade Online and avarus on web, both of which launched in 2014 to replace print magazines.
