The official Twitter account for the Love Live! franchise announced on Saturday that a film project for the Love Live! Sunshine!! anime series has been green-lit.
The second season of Love Live! Sunshine!! premiered on October 7, and the 13th and final episode aired on Saturday. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan, and Funimation began streaming an English dub for the series on October 23.
The first Love Live! Sunshine!! anime premiered in July 2016. Funimation, Crunchyroll, and Daisuki streamed the series outside of Japan.
The Love Live! Sunshine!! project was first announced in February 2015. The project's three key phrases are "Reader Participation," "Inspired by μ's," and "Seaside Town Setting." The group's name Aqours was chosen by fans by popular vote.
In 2010, the anime studio Sunrise, Lantis, and ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G Magazine launched Love Live! as a self-described "ultimate user-participation project" that lets its fans vote on the future of the fictional idols. The project inspired the first television anime season in 2013, and a second season followed in 2014. The Love Live! The School Idol Movie anime film then premiered in June 2015.
Crunchyroll streamed both seasons of the anime, and NIS America released both seasons and the film on home video.
