As someone who collects figures I can tell you that this is simply a fault of Yamato's quality, which they aren't known for outside of their Macross stuff.
I don't think anybody was anticipating this =( |

I concur about this figure being disappointing, but there IS a good Motoko Kusanagi figure on the market: In 2001, McFarlane's Animation From Japan did a great figure of the Major as she appeared in the movie.

Damn! If the female cops in that town dress like that, then what do the hookers wear?

Funny you should say that. Motoko deliberately chooses to "wear" a body based on a sex-model line. Why, I have no idea, but hey, I guess it gives her an advantage; guys are too busy looking at her body to be on guard against her attacks. Of course, this toy has nothing like Motoko's sexy good looks. The price isn't criminal (though it is outrageous). No, what is criminal is that someone made Motoko's arse look that ugly. |

This review has saved me $75!
I probably would have remained too cheap to ever buy this in the first place, but it's nice to have a safeguard. |

I ought to read this column more often, thanks for the review. I'm a GITS-SAC fan myself, but that figure was terrible. Now I'll know not to get that one, but man, that expression on her face?

Anyway, it's not poseable, so perhaps mentioning it has no place here if that's what you're interested in, but I've been awed by this since I first saw it: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-8x-77-3-49-en-15-motoko-70-1uhn.html The pic here: I've seen it from all angles, and it's awesomeness. I've never bought a figure, but I'm considering buying this one. (It's out of stock at the above website, btw.) I guess I'm way too focused on aesthetics to ever be able to buy a poseable figure unless it looked remotely as good as this; I need the character to be beautiful, and this one takes the cake. After seeing it, I could never consider getting another model of the Major. |

Yeah, that made me wonder; do you get re-imbursed by ANN for expenses involved in writing the column? As in, the cost of the figurines/models you review? If you don't want to answer that's cool, I just thought I'd ask. |

Damn, will we never get a nice figure of SAC Makoto?
Oh, I had forgotten about that one. I think out of the many I've seen that one is definitely the best, I saw it at a con once, but it was out of my price range at the time... I may have to go hunt it down though as it doesn't seem we'll get any other figures of Makoto that even approach decent. |

Oh my, that's incredible o.o The expression looks just like her, and the stance and everything.... Man, if I had one of those in my room I'd do nothing but stare at it. Pity it's out of print >.> |
