Based on my experiences trying to flip rare things, most objects, even collectibles, will go down in value with time, or they'll hit a peak value and then go down with time (Base Set Charizard is a good example of this, having hit US$300 at one point, but is now worth no more than US$12, even first-edition ones). The ones that go up and up are the standouts and are the ones you won't stop hearing about, like Action Comics #1 or Babe Ruth baseball cards.

I see no way Tokyo Metro Explorers can ever be a hot item though, short of it becoming memetically bad (as is what happened to Action 52). No offense to anyone who liked Tokyo Metro Explorers, as even decent things can become memetically bad--word just has to spread of at least one thing about it.
