I haven't really seen oh as the romanization of ō nowadays, so maybe translators like ou better. Plus the licensor has say over that sort of thing and may prefer it the way it is. It hasn't really caused much confusion in the show and by now anyone watching the show would be used to it anyhow.

I'd have to say that, in terms of character development, Hanamaru and Ruby are my favorite. Their arc is by far the best in the series so far.

You wears her name on a hat as part of her practice outfit. Changing it might be acceptable for broadcast and vhome video, but it's not feasible for simulcast.

Oh dear, this is even funnier now. I can see why this would be the official spelling though.

However, isn't Love Live! Sunshine!! more intended for international audiences than the original series? If so, it seems like a strange oversight to name a character with the same spelling as one of the top 5 most common words in the world's most widely-spoken language. Otherwise, this comes across as something that was always meant to stay in Japan (and eventually find its way onto Engrish.com).

Yeah, the tried and true strategy of click-baitists the internet over, but I'll forgive it this time since the rest of the list is acceptable enough.

Aren't all harems strange in their own special way particularly because there mostly for ether fanservice or for comedy and that "strangeness" sets them apart from all the rest. Which is probably why we're have harems for many more years to come. Very Happy

I consider "Seikon no Qwaser" a harem. As such, it would be the most porno-like of the anime featured here. Going with source material, "We Without Wings" started as an eroge.

I don't really have a problem with the harem genre. It's not that often you see one guy surrounded by pretty girls. For most guys,it's a dream come true. Sure, the genre has it's share of junk but it's also got it's share of gems as well. Smile And,I'd like to end this by also congratulating Lynzee on her new baby. Congrats! And I hope he or she grows up to be happy and healthy!

Are shows like Steins;Gate and CLANNAD and Sword Art Online and Chaos;Head and Rosario + Vampire and such considered harem shows? In those type of shows, one guy inexplicably ends up being friends with a whole bunch of attractive girls, but typically only one of them is actually his love interest.

Also there are shows like Urusei Yatsura where the main male character WANTS a harem with a lot of the female characters but they keep turning him down. And shows like Ranma 1/2 where it is the opposite and people keep coming on to the main character all the time and it is the main character who always has to reject the side characters (well actually it is much more complicated than that, more of a love dodecahedron, but I wonder if love dodecahedron shows are considered harem).

I know obviously Tenchi Muyo! and Negima! and High School DxD are genuine harem shows but it is kind of hard to tell whether all these other shows should be considered harem shows or not. I would guess that ALL of the aforementioned shows could be considered some type of harem show but I am not entirely sure if that is how other people categorize the harem genre. But I do find it interesting that the #2 and #3 ranked shows currently on this website (both of which were previously #1 at one point), Steins;Gate and Clannad After Story, are both arguably harem shows (Clannad After Story actually isn't quite as much a harem show as the original Clannad but the main guy is still friends with quite a large number of pretty girls).

So yeah just wondering how wide or narrow the definition of harem shows typically is... and also interestingly harems are originally a Middle Eastern thing if I am not mistaken, and the word "haram", one letter different from "harem", means "forbidden" in Arabic... so I also wonder if those 2 words are connected in any way, haram and harem. Anyway it seems to be quite the successful genre if we are inclusive enough to include top-rated shows like Steins;Gate and Clannad as harem shows.

For the fans around here all that seems to be required for a harem show is three or more girls interested in one guy. He does not have to be interested in them.
Of the shows that you mentioned Rosario + Vampire, Negima!, and High School DxD are definitely harem shows. I do not know about the others.

I am a fan of harem comedies, as you can see from this post and others following it in the Anime forum, but I am not familiar with any of the shows on the list.
I actually have seen My Bride is a Mermaid but I do not remember anything about it.

Ah... well then that would make every single one of the shows I mentioned a harem show. Thanks for clarifying that. So the #2 and #3 ranked shows on this site as best (Bayesian estimate) are both harem shows... Steins;Gate and Clannad After Story.

See animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/ratings-anime.php?top50=best_bayesian for the user rankings of best shows. It seems harem shows are quite popular, then, if 2 of the top 3 rated shows on this site, rated by us users, are harem shows.

Judging by your post you linked to, I think you would like the show "Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!" a.k.a. KonoSuba. Very funny harem comedy taking place in a magical parallel world.
