I know that I've never pre-ordered anything months in advance before, but damn, I never thought I'd get a shipping confirmation on the two parts of Tenchi Muyo: War on Geminar twenty-five days prior to the official release date. I'm still going through my Tenchi library rewatch.

I'm looking at the new Patlabor release (the DVD version).
I have three comments:
1) The picture is so much prettier.
2) Why do the subs have to be so lo-res? Is it really impossible to give a bit more bits to the subs?
3) I'll be hanging on to USMC version if only for the Oshii commentary/interview. That's such a gem. And if the price of second-hand copies comes down as a result of the Maiden Japan release, I urge anyone who hasn't got a copy to get one.

I know, right? I opened that email today thinking it would be for Qwaser II, which is out Tuesday but is still on order according to TSRI.
Still, happy Geminar's headed my way.

Like ailblentyn, I just finished watching the new Patlabor Bluray.
I have to agree that the quality is great, it is way better than the prior release. I didn't have any problem with the subtitles though.
I listened to the Oshii commentary and while it is interesting I'm not sure it warrants keeping the original release. The Bluray is seriously bare bones though, no extras of any kind.

I am the opposite of an expert on this, but do BluRays allot more storage space to subtitles or something? They seem to me to look a lot better.

Technically the have that potential. Blu-ray discs store much more than DVD's, therefore there is more space to allot for whatever they choose to use it for. Some may choose to up the quality of the subtitles.

Thanks for your reply, supercreep. Can I ask you how these things work? I'm imagining that how much space is given to subtitles is dictated by the BluRay format, rather than an individual encoder having free choice?

DVDs hold 4GB of space
the subtitles are made to display in SD format (480p)
so when you watch it on an HD TV they may look big and bloated
BD can hold 30GB of space
the subtitles are made for widescreen formats and the size is variable

I had this coupon for the used store that made used paperbacks $2. And the last time I totally let the coupon expire, and I wasn't going to this time!
Kami-kaze 1-5
Satisfaction Guaranteed 1-3
Fullmetal Alchemist Profiles (because why not)
And a bit of a game run spree too! Mostly DS
Again
Broken Sword
Henry Hatsworth
Lux Pain
Space Invaders Extreme 2
Trace Memory
and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time for PS3.
Some of you may question that last one as I don't yet have a PS3, but soon....and I am not about to miss out on this game! And I want it new, I played a bit a friend's place, and the Sly Cooper trilogy was one of my favorite games of the PS2 era. $30 on Amazon, yay!
And for DS things, they were all $5 or less, I'm trying to scoop up some hidden DS gems while there's still good time.

@ potatochobit.
Thanks for the answer.
I received my RightStuf Nausicaa manga set today. It's the heaviest single thing I've ever got from them, and wasn't really packaged accordingly. One corner had been bashed in in transit. Which is a shame because I'll have to wait for a replacement before I get to rip off that plastic and check out the innards.
