I'm sorry for being such a nerd, Pamachu. Shortwave broadcast radio signals are sent at frequencies higher than regular AM broadcast band signals, but considerably lower than the VHF frequencies used for transmitting FM radio broadcasts in most countries. Due to this unique placement in the electromagnetic spectrum, you can receive radio stations from all over the world even on a portable tiny transistor radio.

Naturally it's free to use and there are no subscriber fees. The content widely varies. You can hear everything from foreign weird government propaganda to conspiracy theorists to folk music. Cultural broadcasts are my favorite, and tend to be the most interesting.

NHK World Radio Japan has ceased broadcasting to North America in English, though you can sometimes still receive their Japanese language broadcasts. When they were still on they'd occasionally cover anime and manga. Sadly some broadcasters are going off the air as funds dry up.

For the record, since signals often travel a great distance by skipping across the upper layers of the Earth's atmosphere, they really do have a 'wavering in and out' sort of sound like you used for a metaphor.

Jokes aside, welcome!

You can't not like Elton John.

Thanks for the welcome, sir.

Every time someone talks to me about music i have to try to get them to check out Against All Authority, best band in the world as far as i'm concerned. Great lyrical band. Since you like rise against i think might enjoy them. Different sound than rise against, but if your interested i could send a few songs your way

Ha this is very true - well I'm not a fan of his music but he has done his fair share for equality in the UK.

See I do like the Destroy What Destroys You album by AAA but I find punk in general very hit and miss for my tastes and it's very rare I'm in the mood for that style. But that's not to take anything away from them because as you said they are a great lyrical band which does not have to rely on anti establishment/government/corporations lyrics in every song.

Yea i feel the same way with punk, but AAA always stuck with me. I can't get tired of 'em. I think alot of people are turned off by the trombone, but personally i love it. I think their best album is 24 hour roadside resistance.

So you live in the UK huh, follow football any?

I don't mind the trombone although it does move them close to a Scar genre - not that its a bad thing.

I do live in the UK but it's nowhere near as exciting as Brazil! I have always wanted to go.

Football is not a sport I have ever been able to follow as much as I try I cop out half way through a season. Although I will watch certain games with friends or at the pub and I know enough not to look stupid. I am more of an Motorsport (F1, Moto GP etc.), Olympic sports (Track and Field, Swimming, Volley Ball etc.) and combat (MMA, UFC etc.) person.

i've always wanted to spend some time in England as well, but mostly for the gambling Very Happy . Love the online sports books there, seems real convenient. Also an avid follower of the BPL for the past few years (Tottenham Hotspur). They don't have casinos here in Brasil Sad , its a real shame if you ask me, only thing they're really missing here in my book.

I've never really understood the draw for racing maybe you can help me understand a bit. But if your going to watch i guess F1 is the way to go. I think there's a big following here for F1 aswell. Do you bet on it? seems like a terrible sport to bet with

Wow, I remember having a conversation about punk way back when we were discussing western songs that would go good with anime. I had suggested Less than Jake's 9th at Pine as a shonen fighting anime theme. Sorry if I sound like I'm threatening to turn this into something nerdy. However I suppose that I should say that I am actually a pretty big fan of a lot of punk rock bands for what it's worth.

I'm a little disappointed to hear nothing more than gambling spoken of when F1 came up. Is it so wrong that I like to watch both F1 and Indy Car races even though I don't place bets? xD

@Bread_Sticks - Motorsport = boys and their toys... To be honest I got into F1 as I have watched it with my mother since I was little and from their I have moved out to other series like Moto GP, Superbikes, Touring Cars etc.

@Vashna - I am in the same boat. I am not a betting man... Unless it comes to horse or hound racing, not that I know anything about them other than go with the lower odds - more chance of winning! Very Happy

I occasionally gamble on Casino Games like Black Jack and Roulette and occasionally slots. Bingo seems to be my friend as the last time I played I walked away with over £300. I also used to be a big poker player but I haven't played in a while but I'm quite happy to leave it at that as I have won more then I have lost and I would like to keep it that way, ha!

I don't bet because I know that I wouldn't be able to stop if I did so! I don't think I'll be going anywhere near your horse races just yet, Tsuna, for that reason. That being said, since you mentioned you liked Moto GP and Superbikes, I wondered if you ever heard of On Track Off Road. It's a free online magazine that covers Moto GP, Motocross, Supercross and some other motorsports. You can read it on Issuu or their website, and it comes out every other week or so.

http://ontrackoffroad.com/

I found it a few months ago by accident and went back to read all the older issues.

@Tsuna - I can defiantly understand growing up with something, so i'll give you a pass on that one Wink

@Vashna - That is the second time i've heard you applogize for being a "nerd." you're on an anime forum sir, all is forgiven Laughing

its been years since i've seen any shonen, yu yu hakusho was my first "real" anime. i loved the hell out of that show, came on i think it was 4:30 central time on toonami back in the day. Also go into shaman king a little later.

Detective Conan is still one of my all time favorite shows, brilliant, and i think its still running. only show i've ever had the patience to watch the sub. Used to come on after inuyasha on adult swim. man i was sleep deprived for years after i discovered adult swim haha Laughing

You got me all nostalgic now. I also remeber loving Beyblade as a kid, went to look it up and holy crap man people are really harsh on it. what's with that? was one of my favorite shows growing up.

There was a motorsport type anime that used to play on toonami and i can't remember it for the life of me. was racing with these machines type things, i remember the main characters name was takeshi and the show had a wierd name like "i.g.t" or something along those lines idk. If you watched toonami maybe you know what i'm talking bout.

@Vashna - I have never been a big purchaser of Magazines, blocks of tiny text frustrates me as my eyes wonder to the giant pictures ha. That being said I do troll official websites etc to keep in the know.

@Bread_Sticks - the only Motorsport cartoons I used to watch when I was younger was Wakey Races... Now there's some nostalgia!
I was never a Beyblade fan - I think I grew out of "cartoons" when it came on to the scene.

After a little search i managed to find that show. it was called IGPX - Immortal Grand Prix. Maybe you would enjoy it, i don't really know your anime preferences. It's not really 'cartooney'

It's the (TV2) one on this site, heres a link if your interested:

Believe it or not Bread Sticks, I've been told here before in a private that I am a bit nerdy so I figured that if an anime forum is telling me that I am a nerd I am a nerd. Thank you for the vote of confidence though! Granted, I should probably say that I actually like Beyblade now adays at my age. If that doesn't make me nerdy I'm not sure what will. I've even caught up with Metal Masters to be honest, though I actually wasn't into Beyblade when I was actually the age to care about it.

No worries about magazines, Tsuna. I just thought that I would share it because it was free and that's always the best price.

As for Immortal Grand Prix, I've never heard of it. I'm more familiar with Scan2Go when it comes to motorsports anime, which is essentially Pokemon with Le Mans cars xD
