Oh wow, the retards strikes back?
They're not real children, when will people understand this?
If this is so bad, why do they not ban violent video/computer games, ban violent movies, ban music and books with illicit themes and ban American porn movies with a school setting?

Good old USA puting our tax dollars to work and by that i mean wasting them on as far as i can see a harmless man i mean if he had real Child Pornography and or was harming real girls id say good let him sit in there for life but its a damn Cartoon not real fake lol i cant wait to see how nice he will be after the 3 years maybe after the jail time he will become the real harmful person a cop can kill a guy by mistake and get less then a year but a guy who owns Cartoon' Child Pornography gets 3 years seems very fair

I understand that this guy’s prolly a sorry-assed, pathetic excuse for a human, and that his WIFE’S the one who narc’d on him to the P.D., but, from a Civil and Constitutional Rights viewpoint, this conviction is VERY disturbing, to me. Particularly so, when the statue he was convicted under reads: “(B) is obscene”.
Obscene…as defined by WHOM?
Wasn’t that the question that Larry Flynt’s lawyers used, to beat his obscenity rap, back in the 70’s, for his publishing of “Hustler”?
“Obscene” is just too much of a fuzzy word to drop someone in the slammer over….
Do I need to hide my manga copies of “Moonphase” and “Mahoromatic”? And, oh dear! My “Summer Wars” DVD will prolly get the book thrown at me for depicting nekkid kids running around in the bath!

So pretty much if you get caught with one random image of what appears to be an underage looking girl you downloaded from 4chan, your akin to being a serial rapist who likes to fiddle young kids. And note that there is A LOT of manga and anime out there released in the USA that could get you into trouble by some overzealous prosecutor looking to add a sexual predator notch to his belt. |
i cringed of the 4chan posts with yours like #73231910

I still can't get over the fact that people sat down in a courtroom and discussed this case. All those precious tax dollars down the drain.
Are people really getting fiction and reality confused?or chalking them to the same thing?
Why not spend those precious resources, time, effort, and use it to catch the real criminals?

I love how everyone is jumping to conclusions about how the wife hated he husband and wanted to get out of the releationship, but not making any similar jumps with the husband potentially being actually into real children or reading looking at those images instead of real photos as a loophole...
Don't JUST defend the guy because he's an anime fan. You can't even theorize either way because there's so little information on either of them.
Frankly whatever was going on, I don't blame the wife, especially if she didn't know much about anime/manga. Weather the guy was into the 'real deal' or not, that can come as quite a shock and potentially have some unfortunate implications.

They don't... from what I may have seen with any hypothetical dvd that might contain something loosely termed as 'hen' [hows that for dissembling?]
right up front they will say anything on the disc depicts characters at least 18 years old...
it's the imported stuff that doesn't contain the banners. I'm sure there's plenty of doujin that cross this line because they aren't translated or released in English, so there isn't any warnings or legal info on them...
so then the court looks exclusively at the imagery without context. |
This is true. They even go so far as to alter descriptions and change lines to adjust characters that might be considered underage. For instance, high schools will be called universities. Obviously, this isn't going to fool anyone that knows better, but it seems to be sufficient to allow sales without any problem.

That is the real sticking point with things like this. "Obscene" is a fluid concept that depends on all sorts of things, such as where you are, the opinions of the judge, the minds of the jury, etc. Unfortunately, lawmakers tend to leave things broad so it falls on the next guy to figure out what the law means and they don't have to try to explain it.

So long as it's only drawn anime porn, ZERO child porn, and he's never committed any sexual offense, I will defend him. So far the case seems to be that, so unless new evidence shows up, we got with what we have.

Good to know theres people out there looking out for those poor fictional children. Now lets finally get around to arresting all those sickos that draw R34 Of Disney characters & My Little Pony.
Cuff em all I say!
But on a serious note, while I do think its silly to send a man to jail for 3 years when he didn't even do anything to actually hurt anyone, I can't say I feel sorry for him, I do however feel sorry for his wife, it would be a bit shocking to find something like that on your significant others PC. Although she could have easily talked it out with him instead of calling the cops. Or just gotten a giant pan and beat him till he promised not to look at such content any more, whichever would have worked best.
