Someone probably finds him moe. I found him boring and dropped the show because of it.

But that wasn't the point.

I love this so much! This is the same argument the US Supreme Court used to define pornography versus basic nudity in art. Paraphrase: "I can't quite define it but I know it when I see it."

I don't think that's what he's saying. I think what he's saying is that, despite people having varied definitions for "moé," it's rarely unclear what someone is talking about when they talk about moé, and it's rarely necessary for someone to articulate their personal definition to explain their interpretation.

That is to say, it's not "I can't quite define it but I know it when I see it," it's "I understand what you're talking about and don't need it spelled out for me, even though we're talking about two different interpretations."

That's pretty much it although I'm not against someone elaborating on their definition, it's just that I have a pretty good general idea of what they mean by moe even if they don't define it in detail.

I'm not using moe as a divisive term either where moe=bad, that would go against how I view anime in general. I like a variety of anime including anime that would be considered moe.

That's also a good example of what I was talking about actually. I don't define anime as moe since it's an emotion but I know what people mean when they say an anime is a moe anime.

My argument is, very specifically, that you like arguing about it way more than you would ever enjoy actually figuring out how to define it. All of these discussions read like "No, I "get it" more than you do" dick-measuring contests. There really is no substantive discussion happening at all.

For whatever it's worth, I quite enjoyed my discussion with Timeenforceranubis. It seems to me like he's one of the people that is actually having substantial discussions with people and I didn't find for a minute find that he tried to act superior or make this a "dick-measuring contest" as you call it.

I agree. I feel like ikillchiken and most of the other commenters in this thread are committed to having a civil discussion and have kept an air of mutual respect. Insults have been kept in check, and people are genuinely discussing the subject matter and presenting their points in a civilized manner. Nobody's overreacting or deliberately being dismissive or derisive (As I feel you are doing, Zac) and, I can't speak for everyone, but I feel like I've come away from this discussion richer from the experience.
