I really enjoyed the Tokiwaso museum. It's small but the exhibits are well researched and informative. Most information is in Japanese, though. They give you a short English summary but the juicy bits are in the information boards and there's a good series of interviews playing on the ground floor. When I went, there was also a nice special exhibition of Yotsubato!, including a lot of in-progress sketches and manuscripts that nicely illustrated how Azuma puts his pages together.

I went to quite a few exhibitions in Japan and they are usually elaborately created but often just an enumeration with little insight. Like the Black Jack exhibition at Mori Tower, that mostly enumerated many chapters of the manga with a summary and some manuscripts but lacked an in-depth analysis of the series or its impact. The Tokiwaso museum was an exception, it actually compiled a lot of information about the time, who and how they lived and worked, as well as how it changed over the years. The kinds of insight I often missed in other exhibitions.

Yeah, that's pretty wild. I wonder how the exhibit went about sourcing that?

The 10% on movies also caught my eye. Options for entertainment were somewhat more limited, I guess? I still would not have guessed it'd be that high, though maybe it would've been significantly higher among mangaka than typical families..
