I think Spongebob is popular ( I'm not sure) but I know for sure that Powerpuff girls and Lilo and Stitch were big hits ( thus giving them spin off anime TV series's.)

Well, there is another question connected to this I like an answer to. Was Jo,the frequently kidnapped girl in the "Burst Angel" anime and manga inspired by "The Perils of Penelope Pitstop?" On that show, the heroine,Penelope Pitstop was frequently kidnapped by the show's villain, the Hooded Claw. If not,did the show inspire any other anime in Japan?

Shinchan and DBZ are anime, not American cartoon. Avatar is not that popular in Japan.

Avatar probably looked pretty generic in Japan but it was novel here in the States for most normal folk. I think much in the same way Full Metal Alchemist looks generic to Americans/Europeans.
Because if the anime influence, I would be very interested in seeing what an average Japanese cartoon-viewer thinks of it. Its like our own little love-letter to their medium.

I think Code Lyoko, a French cartoon, is popular.
Also, Beast Wars and X-Men.

In my last post,I mistakenly said Jo frequently got kidnapped. It was Meg. But the question still remains. Was Meg inspired by "The Perils of Penelope Pitstop,"a show that was a spinoff of "Wacky Races,"another show that made it to Japan? In that show, the title character Penelope Pitstop was frequently kidnapped by the villain of the show, the Hooded Claw.
If not,did the show inspire any other anime in Japan?
