Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs: As a (massive) fan of the To Love-Ru franchise, this show sounded like it would be right up my alley and sure enough, I had quite a pleasant time with it. No doubt, the conversations between Yuuna and Fuyuzora was one of my favorite parts of the episode and the fan service did its’ job well. I’ll be looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

It will be intesting to see the streaming reviews poll - somehow I think Holmes of Kyoto won't make it - its appeal is very specific. Reminds me of Gallery Fake a few years back about art forgery.

Yeah, based on the way voting's gone in the past, I'll be very surprised if that one makes the cut. Others that I think are highly unlikely are Mr. Tonegawa, The Genius Bakabon, Lord of Vermilliion (it currently has the lowest community score in the PG, at only 2.3), and one or both of The Thousand Musketeers and 100 Sleeping Princes. Master of Ragnarok and Music Girls look like borderline calls.

(And to be clear, this is educated speculation on my part, not based on any actual poll numbers.)

Looking at the poll numbers, all of the shows named here firmly did not make the cut except one, which is being underestimated. If anyone wants to solve that riddle.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd go with Tonegawa. I will write off the two mentioned borderline cases, as unless one or the other is unexpectedly very popular, I don't know that a show speculated to be borderline getting in would qualify as being underestimated. Given Bakabon and Lord of Vermillion's low user ratings, and neither seeming to be apt for hate review (going by the reviews of the latter being more bland than bad as I haven't seen it myself), they don't seem likely either. I can't speak to Thousand Musketeers or 100 Princes, so they may be possibilities, but like the borderline cases, if it was speculated that one or the other could pass muster, then I don't know that they could be qualified as underestimated if it did (Plus with the only part of Touken Ranbu covered here being Ufotable's Katsugeki, I'm not confident that Thousand Musketeers would not end up similarly, given the ratings). Tonegawa however seems like a show that could find its niche, perhaps enough to get picked up, and a dark horse in the very competitive comedy offerings this season. Or I could be totally off-base. Well find out soon enough.

There always does seem to be one or two surprises each season, I guess. Now I'm really curious as to which one it is.

Please tell me it's vermillion, the only one I voted for because it seems the most likely to go into train wreck territory. Very Happy

For serious guess... hum I'll go with 1000 musketeers, that's a genra I literally don't understand but seems to be pretty popular. Maybe Ragnarok, it seems like there's also a strong desire for isekai show that do absolutely nothing out of the ordinary.

My guess and hope is that Holmes made the cut. Maybe Ragnarok because isekai is popular. Harder maybe for 100 Sleeping Princes. I feel like all those other shows listed will have small niche popularity at best

Oh man, I wanted three of all those mentioned to get reviews. Anime hyper I hope it's Holmes of Kyoto (cause I think it has the potential to be really good), but I would be down with 100 Sleeping Princes (I really like Kiel... Embarassed ).

I guess we'll find out soon!

After watching the second episode of 100 Sleeping Princes I think it's shaping up surprisingly fast to be more than just the typical reverse harem where she collects princes while fighting monsters with her special powers. Already we have murder and palace intrigue and a scheming third party whose motives are unknown. And Kiel is turning out to be a delightfully snarky trickster.

I wasn't super interested after the first episode, but I was enough to go back and add it to my vote after the second. It seems like a storyline that could benefit from weekly reviews.

I hope too Holmes of Kyoto makes it but it doesn't exactly come across as being a "popular" anime.

There was a LOT of reference to Japanese history in there which might be lost on some people. It interests me because I have studied Japanese history when I was on my study abroad so it has some meaning to me at least on a basic level + I have been to Kyoto so know what a beautiful city it is too.

Nothing like "real location porn" in Anime ( Phantom in the Twlight is also guilty of this ).

Speaking of which there is a series next season totally set in Nagasaki - I am REALLY looking forward to that as it was my study abroad stomping ground!!!

Totally missed Holmes in my considerations. I could see that one getting through too. I wasn’t expecting to watch it myself, but I checked it out due to its (previously better) user rating, and I thought it was rather charming. Whether or not it is the one that got through, I’ll be watching it.

It's unfortunate Revue Starlight has so many mistakes in the subtitles as it's a beautiful show otherwise. I'm not even JLPT 5 and I noticed a ton of awkwardly worded phrases or just plain incorrect translation. It sure isn't helping people understand the show, that's for sure.

Still, If Kinema Citrus can keep the story and animation fairly consistent this could turn out pretty good.

Also, did anyone else think the dinosaur alarm clock at the beginning of the episode sounded very similar to the Corpse Weepers from Made in Abyss?

Asobi Asobase continues to be funny, though the hagoita segment seemed a bit too out-of-left-field to me.

Hanebado is surprisingly good, three episodes in.

Cells at Work is just fun and pleasant to watch, and where not particularly educational it’s at least thought-provoking. Some nice touches in things like the white blood cell rescuing some unnamed character in the background even after the plot-specific rescuing is over and done with. It doesn’t seem like much, but many series don’t bother with that sort of thing.

Planet With has things in perfect balance for me personally, so far. Insanity and sense, comedy and drama, deconstruction/parody and standard storytelling etc. It twists everything just enough to make it feel fresh, without going so far as to seem forced. Even just the way it sets expectations related to the spoiler[meat bun] and then slightly subverts them is a good example.

Reviewer assignments are out!

Y'all were sittin' on Holmes of Kyoto, as it turns out. Wink It pulled a perfectly respectable 20% of the poll, while all the other titles mentioned couldn't crack 10%.
