I guess it'd be too much to ask for him to get capital punishment.

You can actually be arrested for drawings in totalitarrian countries like the UK, Australia, and Canada. That is probably why, along with general ignorance, you see so many news outlets call drawings "child pornography". It all nets you the exact same punishment in those countries so its legally all considered the same thing. But if you live a in more rational country then there's definitely a huge distinction that needs to be made. That's how the 8chan nonsense started in the first place. One Canadian blogger called the loli drawings and child model stuff on 8chan child pronography, then a bunch of news sites picked it up and rolled with it spreading misinformation. So now people think there's this US-based site that has openly been hosting actual child pronography for years and years and is able to get away with it for some unknown, mysterious reason.

Glad this low life sick fudge (stupid auto correct, sorry, but I have no respect for inhuman monsters like him) was caught, and it turns out that Amahada Shōjo, one of the manga he drew is a hentai involving children (I just read the description on MyAnimeList, I'm not interested in having Hansen or Incognito tell me to have a seat)...
Why am I not surprised at all? Safe to say his career's been flushed down the toilet.

Yikes yikes yikes. I may not like loli but I'd argue they don't actually look much like real human children.
This guy's stuff though? It almost looks traced from actual pictures. It's very creepy.

I looked it up before reading the comments. Just seeing the cover, I think it's pretty obvious he was interested in real children. It hardly looked like "anime". It wasn't just a realistic anime style. It looked near photo-realistic. Big red flag.
Not to say anyone who is interested in real children should be arrested or punished before committing an offense (I have at least some faith that most people like this know better and wouldn't touch real children). But yeah, the moment he posted the first bit of child porn, he brought this on himself.
Now, that said... 20,000 photos...
The fact there are that many photos out there is kinda concerning. This is way bigger than one or two mangaka.

Even though I am absolutely sickened by his criminal actions, his art shouldn't be an excuse for his crime. He chose to commit his crimes.

So, these are just drawings of children, not actual photos of children? If so, where is the crime? What child was exploited? I don't think it is right to arrest someone for drawing something.

Did you read the article? He was arrested for posting four photos of real children to a child pornography web site. They suspect he may have posted as many as 20,000 such photos. This warrants arrest, and if confirmed punishment.
The incident was reported here because he is a mangaka. People were also discussing his manga. That is were the drawings occur.

Ichikura's artstyle looked very realistic compared to other manga artwork. And like what someone said it looks traced, something that some artists who draw obscene material have done, tracing it over actual indecent pictures.

I read what was posted by ANN, which left the matter kind of vague to me, hence my post. If actual children were indeed involved, then by all means prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law.

Not a crime to draw, no. As far as I know, there are very few places on Earth where you can be incriminated by drawing something.
Japan did make a somewhat recent law making lewd drawings representing children more difficult to sell but obviously if they're distributed on the internet that ain't gonna do much.
