IF you haven't seen the last episode and dont want to be spoiled dont read my post, i am NOT going to use the spoiler tag..the choice is yours, dont blame me.

Well i came back for the last four or five eps because they toned down the very very very boring perversion focus and the little kid stuff which had no business being in a show about high school. The first season was subtle and kept such things suggested and the conflict between Yozura and Sena was interesting and fun, this season it got mean and boring. I am still a fan of Sena and I am glad as i can be that she was the winner and she actually did the confessing that he should have done.

Kodaka in the first season was interesting, sad but funny and also there were hidden reserves about him, he was not forced into the spotlight by weak directing as he has been in the second season. This new young director was nervous and it showed, he kept throwing the show into full speed when he should have sped up gradually and hung the story on Sena and her weird father, and allowed Yozura and the other girls to fade slowly out of the focus, instead he made it a free for all super harem blitz that just about killed the show. Fortunately Sena is a strong enough character and draw that i am sure there will be a third season now.

As for Kodaka, he was used as a sponge to soak up all of the director's nervousness, the last bit with the student council and the sudden appearance of the President who has NO appeal and NO reason to be thought of any threat to any one, or any cause for Kodaka to 'love her character' at all, that was just stupid. And the ball fight was dumb beyond belief, what a joke and a waste of time in the episode that could have been used to develop fhe final scene with Sena. She deserved better. Yes i know they dont want to waste it for Season 3, and yes we will be back, i just hope they take that director out for a long walk and talk and try to get him to calm down and just use the fine story in the books like Season 1 did.

When Anime tries too hard it become boring and shallow fast. This second season teetered on the edge of total collapse, and the quarted of dumb secondary girls was just boring. In the end, Kodaka , Sena and Yozura are worthy of focus, the rest are throw away and i have no interest in any of them.

I hope we get some better material in season 3 or in the close out OVA if they cant get the money for another season. Also the art and the art direction was very weak in Season 2 compared to Season 1, that was another failed change. Too bad because Season 1 remains a masterpiece, this one is only good, but there is hope for the future. And I am very very glad that they at least allowed Sena to grow and be worthy of the focus she always deserved. Youzura and her nasty bullying had better be toned down, or it can still wreck the show and her own fine character. She needs to move on and realize that her childhood crush on Kodaka was just that, and that Sena is the better woman for him. I only hope he can grow up and realize himself more for this past four episodes he has been a total joke, and has made a mockery of his own character. It is all depending on the director, I hope he calms down and realizes he can do better, much better and i hope he will.

So you had no interest in Rika, the character that became the favourite character of many people? The girl who was perceptive enough to notice Kodaka's secret, and as well as what is happening with everyone else, and worked herself sick in to try and get friends. Not to mention the kind of unspoken subplot of her constantly changing her appearance.

The stakes were risen, Yozora pushed too far and this itself showed how actually how close the two of them are. That Yozora would feel guilty about going that far in crossing a line that should not exist if they were enemies like they said, and that Sena could be a healthy type of tough on her when needed. They were the important developments that happened this season.

Perhaps, but I think it was an interesting play in conveying that Rika was willing to play the villain just to have her friends together again, that she wanted Kodaka to be a hero and make everyone happy. Any actual conclusion between Kodaka and Sena's confession was probably best left suspended, it may have felt too rushed, as it is I don't think he is quite ready to date her yet since he had been keeping some distance up till now.

I came back to say I am with CrisGer on that and repeat myself -- it was totally stupid and "beyond belief" is not exaggeration. Imagine someone deciding it would be great to stick 5 minutes of hard core porn in to Beverly Hills Cop. On par with that.

It wasn't, however, a waste of time. There did need to be a confrontation to help Kodoka reconcile his feelings, and Rika was not a bad choice to do it. Just not that way.

As far as squaring things with Sena it seems pretty obvious that they were setting up the next season. If there is a next season it was the right choice. If there is not a third season then yes they ended very weak but not fatally so. I still have mixed feelings about him ending up with Sena but I have to admit they look damn cute together.

So the balls are too much, but the fully immersive VR, the "time machine," and Rika's various other inventions are okay?

I admit I forgot about that -- and it is a good point. If it isn't OK, I can at least make the case that it isn't egregiously bad. The time machine could be explained by simple psychotropic drugs or even just the power of suggestion. All they were doing was stirring up memories and not really defying the laws of physics or the contemporary limits of engineering.

The best anime drama/comedy doesn't have to rely on supernatural or superscientific gimmicks. In Haganai's case, where its strongest suit is the interaction between the strong but plausible personality types, the reliance on such devices seriously weaken the drama from what it could have otherwise been.

Rika is an established super genius and this is a comedy anime, after all, so I can buy a bit of ridiculousness.

The mind controlled cat ears she was wearing do exist, at least.

This may be a Comedy show but that was supposed to be the Big Dramatic Climax, and my eyes were rolling out of their sockets from the stupidity of the little balls flying about and putting craters in concrete.

yeah, that was kinda weird. How was Kodaka still alive after that if they could break the concrete?

Well I thought the balls were a little odd too, but I feel that it fits enough into the characters craziness not too be too out there. Rika was able to add Hollywood level graphics by herself to the movie, incorporate VR, make some sort of dream machine, and her specialty easy change dye products. She had days or over a week to plan what to do, and Kodaka asked her earlier to actually create something more cool. The balls creating heavy damage is likely a style choice that is often in anime, but she also had time to put other machines that supported the balls movement on top of the roof.

Overall it came down to a stylistic choice, but also throw backs Kodaka saying what she should do, and what she was willing to do.

I dunno, the balls were a distraction. They weren't even necessary; as someone previously said, Rika already had the embarrassing recording, so she didn't need to physically attack him. Rika and Kodaka's heart-to-heart conversation was just hard to take seriously when one of them was dodging killer balls, LOL.

Well the alternative was them just standing there and shouting at each other. I do believe you were the one who voiced displeasure at those situations, dtm42.

Anyways, the recording was enough to blackmail him, but not enough to beat some sense into him. Besides, we know how Rika can be when she's angry. Remember her 'tsundere' maid?

If she was comfortable hitting him multiple times (enough to make him almost cry in the LN) in her maid outfit, then why not do it again in ep. 12? I would have prefered that over Kodoka vs. Magneto. It would have been more dramatic that way. And would have made more sense

That's just one alternative. Two people can have a serious conversation without melodramatically screaming at one another or using metal hover balls that smash concrete.

It's Haganai's version of the classic "two men speak with their fists and become friends as the sun sets." But Rika isn't physically strong and so needed some gadget to take the place of her fists.

Are you guys seriously talking about porn, in this thread?

How dare you betray the 2D girls, I have lost about 2/5's of my respect.

What would our characters think?
