I think a T-Shirt and trousers suit Nina.
Must be easier to move around in other than that dress. Is the dress standard ANN issue for its elven employees? |

Can't say I enjoyed that one. There's too much Potter in society these days.

Another good one!
That appears to be a very upset (no doubt because of the 404) chibi Jadress Not too long ago she regularly graced the ANN front page. Kind of miss her. Maybe a cousin to Nina? |

Only for the News elves, of which there are several. Nina specialises in the North American Anime news vines, and there are other such news elves in Europe and East Asia. Unfortunately, since there are already plenty of American news elves, and since Nina is a (nice) ditz, she is consigned to watching series day and night to get background knowledge (and keep her out of the way). Now, the Encyclopaedia elves are expected to wear the typical librarian outfit (yes, encyclopaedists and librarians may be different, but try telling that to any Elven Resource Department (ER)): Glasses are required. If the encyclopaedia elves do not normally wear glasses, then they are required to have non-prescription lenses. No contacts, either. A longish skirt is essential. Knee length or lower, primarily to stop perverts (you know who you are) looking up their skirts when they bend over when on shelving duty. A white shirt, plain or slightly frilly. Ribbons are okay. Libraries can be draughty places, and no-one wants their staff (magical or not) taking sick leave. High heels are debatable. They are not practical (especially considering the heavy books they have to cart around), but they look so good. Finally, makeup should be basic, and hair done simply (preferably in a ponytail or braid). In any event, the professional encyclopaedia elf should strive to look like Hikari from Haibane Renmei. To those of you who may think that we are blatantly sexist, I think this picture perfectly sums up our view...... On a related note, "The Warcry Of Excessiveness" is indeed the funniest Anime episode that I have ever had the pleasure of watching. [If the image is just too large (pixel wise, file-size wise, or both), then I apologise in advance. Send me a PM, and I will be happy to substitute it with a smaller, more economical version. Thankyou.] |

That's what I thought first too when seeing this strip... Overall I don't find it funny but at least the Negima (or Harry Potter) reference was nice... or maybe it tries to show the 'likeness' of Negima and Harry Potter? (or maybe I'm just overthinking) |

There are still so many questions: When exactly do Snap, Crackle and Pop recede from the council to form their own coalition? And when did the council create the ENSU, or Elven National Shoemakers Union?
Also, damn right that's the best episode ever. |

^^ Jadress was ANN's mascot a while back, and has since faded and sort of been replaced by Nina. I was thinking of making a passing reference to her in a future strip, but nothing is set in stone yet. But keep an eye peeled.
Uh... what?! |

I think this is a reference to the SNL skit where Lindsay Lohan played Hermoine and no one could keep their eyes off her big breasts the entire time. |

It indeed was. I figure if there's ever an Anime News Nina dub she could do the voice work. And yes I am totally joking there. I don't think Lohan would have the depth to voice the awesomeness that is Nina though. Perhaps Rachael Weisz though (she did a good job voicing Saphira in Eragon IMO) |

People still watch that show? Even after 2002? |

I think she more closely resembles Pirotess, as Parn had dark hair, and Deedlit was blonde. |

Jadress could be one of Nina's sempai from the school. Someone she always looked up to and respected. (Which Kevin can totally misinterpret.)
Considering how many people still talk about her, I don't think Jadress should be left out of this fun strip. |

I'm surprised no one asked this sooner: What's Mika a reference to, if anything? For some reason I keep thinking back to Ferngully, but I know that's wrong.
