Yay! They kept L'Arc's OP in! Unless they might end up dubbing it later..? I hope not.

It's most likely they'll try dubbing it. Course I'm basing that off of them dubbing DBZ and Fruits Basket music. Don't know if they did it to their other series. I think their attempt at dubbing L'arc and all the other bands/artist will be intresting...

Well, they dubbed Kiddy Grade's too.

I'm hoping that because the FMA music is so distinctive, they'll keep it original.

Dubbing of music has always been a major strike in my book, I think that if they can manage to keep the music the same for once, my opinion of Funi will drastically improve. *chuckle*

I don't know about anyone else here, But I personally think that I've heard fandubs better than the person who was doing Al's voice in the intro. For crying out loud, it sounds like he's reading it off a script!! Please tell me it was FUNimation's way of quickly putting a website up for their newest series and that isn't going to be Al's real voice!

I was thinking the same thing... if that's supposed to be Al's voice... shudder. Still, it is a good idea to show something than nothing. For all that it may be, that didn't sound like acting...

Hopefully, it's just one of the producers doing a crappy job *crosses fingers*

What I'm really glad about is that they are keeping the Japanese Intro, instead of replacing like some animes have (*cough*Shaman King *cough*)

It's nice to see an anime with the Japanese Intro other than .hack or on AN

Did anyone else notice that they didn't have "Melissa" up as the opening theme, but they had "READY STEADY GO" instead? I'm hoping they don't mess up the order of the opening and ending themes (given that they decide to keep the original versions) just because the band name is Porno Graffiti. -_-

You know, on the DBZ dvds, Funi left the original music in on the Japanese track. Why wouldn't they do the same for FMA? If it's going to be changed, it would probably be just for broadcast.

Uh, let's think about this. Right at the beginning of the first few episodes, can we all remember what happened? One of the boys would read off their spiel about equivalent trade. It's like reading a textbook passage.

From the trailer:
"Man cannot obtain anything without first sacrificing something. In order to obtain anything, something of equal value is required. That is alchemy's law of equivalent exchange. At the time, we believed that to be the true way of the world."

He's stating a "textbook definition" of alchemy's law of equivalent exchange. He's not supposed to be showing a lot of emotion. He's reading a "scientific" law. It is something in which you can't put emotion in.

Let's illustrate this with an example:
"The value of the net work done by or on a closed system undergoing an adiabatic process between two given states depends solely on the end states, and not on the details of the adiabatic process. That is the first law of thermodynamics. At the time, we believed that to be the true way of the world."

I wasn't aware that a lot of emotion should be put into reading definitions. Not to mention it's a 10 second spot of a kid's voice. You can't determine a dub based on 10 seconds. And supposing you can, I really like the voice. It's what I've always pictured Al would sound like if he spoke English.

I totally agree with SakechanBD. I also pictured Al to have an english voice like that. From all the threads I've seen on this board people have been complaining about FUNi doing FMA. Why? I agree about all the DBZ stuff but they have been getting much better over time, for example Blue Gender. Finally we're getting the DVDs, how could you not like that? If they make a few alterations it's not going to totally ruin an awesome series. So instead of complaining about how it might be, might as well wait and see for yourself when it hits stores and cartoon network. Then you can complain your hearts out. Laughing

Funimation tends to give the VA the script once they get to the booth to start work. The VA's never see anything until later. This allows for freedom to work well, but makes the adaptation take time and make the first episodes suck.
Of course they could just group dub, but nooooo, americans never group dub.

I can't disagree with you here. I'm hoping the dub is done better than that. It's just that it sounded very detatched. It was more like an uninterested 3rd party narritive than an actual character who has been changed because of how he thought the world was supposed to be.

Is there that much meaning behind just a couple of lines? For this series? Yeah. But you are right, it doesn't determine the quality of the dub. I'm just hoping they go back and redo the lines.

Well I havnt watched any of Full Metal Alchemist so I have no comparison to make but like Sakechan if I had to make a judgement from just a few line I actually thought it sounded fairly good.
