It's not really an anime, now is it? It's a French cartoon with Japanese executive producers. Toei's role in this show has been minimalistic at best.

Why is this even mentioned on an anime site?

That's what I thought. I guess even the smallest things that have anything to do with Japan, must already be here. For the views, ofc.

It's one of the most generic and bland shows created in a while. A far cry from what the original TOEI preview promised. I could not care less about this, it's childish and boring.

If it's so childish and boring why did you click on it? Question

It was going to be a French/Japanese co-production with Toei animating it, but the France side decided it would be too expensive so they went with CG instead. They also retooled it to be more like a western cartoon since networks weren't interested in a dark series. I don't think there's anything Japanese about the show anymore since the animatikn is no longer outsourced

A majority of the fans of Ladybug are anime fans and almost all the voice actors in the dub are Anime VAs. So it make sense that this news is on a site that caters to that crowd.

Honestly the show is okay for me. I can't say I'm excited for a second season, but I am hoping that they put more focus on the history of the magical transformation trinkets and their users.

Honestly? Because I'm still PO they didn't make the original. I was looking forward to it, it looked really cool. It seemed like it was going to be a tad darker then usual mahou shoujo, but at the same since it was made by TOEI it wouldn't have been grim-dark.

Kind of a petty mindset to have.

It should be pointed out that an anime version is still in the works. The real question is why does someone always have to complain whenever there's something 100% purely not anime related on this site? If you think the article is a waste of time to read, why are you reading it or going out of your way to comment about it? Apparently it wasn't that much of a waste for you to log in and post about it. Anyway, I've never really watched the show, but as a big fan of magical girl anime, I'm glad to see more girl power animation doing well on American TV. Hopefully Nickelodeon will treat this franchise better than they did Winx Club which also started off pretty well for them but then they just kind of let it fizzle out. I'm not even sure if that's still on TV? It still feels weird seeing DVDs of this series at Walmart now after seeing it exist only as promo on YouTube for years now.

Completely agree sadly. I first saw this on nickelodeon and thought that it seemed very anime like so I gave it a watch. I saw about 4 episodes and from that I concluded , this show is perfect for nickelodeon. Generic, one dimensional and pretty much uninovative.

I fail to see how this product is "more like a western cartoon" when it is a magical girl show 100%

Y'all know Madoka was the exception and not the rule, right?

Don't worry, I've been watching magical girl stuff since the 90s. I'm not some Madoka bandwagon hopper. Premise, episode structure, writing, and plotting wise it's a cartoon that has more in common with superheroes than magical girls. It's basically a female Spider-Man cartoon. The fact it has a snobby preppy alpha bitch at school who picks on Marienette is quintesential in western productions for female leads, akin to how a letterman jacket wearing jock bully is to male leads. They also have to deal with balancing school life and protecting their secret identities which magical girl shows never do. The fact there is a male hero costar alone betray the entire concept of magical girls, and makes it basically Female Spider-Man and male Black Cat. The only magical girl tropes they really got right was a mascot character giving the hero her powers, which a lot of other Western magical girl attempts tend to forget. It's definitely a superhero cartoon more than a magical girl one. Just compare the show to any Pretty Cure and you'll see a mountain of differences.

I wouldn't go so far to say it's a "magical girl show 100%". It's a superhero show first and for most. Probably more in the vein of tokusatsu, because I feel like I'm watching a really bad Power Rangers episode whenever I watched this. Hopefully they improved next season because they've lost my interest.
