Announce a remake for Star Ocean 2, and I might even consider a PS5...

This is what the series is reduced to, a remaster of PSP remake? SO, BoF, Suikoden and so on need to be left in peace unless a proper new AAA entry can be done.

Every article I read about this says something different. Some says it's an HD port of the PSP Remake, others think it's a re-remake based on the PSP remake.

Suikoden is probably a lost case, seeing as it is a Konami property. As unfortunate as that is...

...I wouldn't put it past them remaking it as a gacha though...

A remaster of a (from what I heard) decent remake on a console that doesn't blow counts as a win in my book.

Same goes for releases of other almost lost classics like BoF3&4 and Suikoden 2.

I'm happy about this, keeping the series alive for newer consoles. (And from everything I've heard, the PS5 will certainly be backwards compatible with the PS4.) Now if they would just fix the camera in Integrity and Faithlessness so I can play it without getting a headache.

They already released Second Evolution on the PS4 PSN (Japan only) years ago, so I have to imagine this is more of a remake than anything else since this has new art and the R suffix. They did neither for Second Evolution when they brought it to PS4

I don'y understand how they keep making star ocean game, when the last two ranged from unmitigated disaster to large disappointment, and leave all the other great JRPG franchise dead.

The only game I've been disappointed with is Integrity and Faithlessness, and the team knows people were disappointed by it and have been trying to recant for it. It was an attempt by the developers to pander to the western audience by removing cutscenes and toning down the fanservice. Japanese gamers were upset by it, as were western fans of the franchise. And I believe the developers knew it was a mistake. When they released the mobile game it had both cutscenes as well as tons of fanservice and didn't shy away from it. I believe the team learned their lesson and the next installment will be a return to form. Until then, a remake of First Departure sounds interesting,. I felt it was always a weak remake. The game doesn't really work in the SO2 engine, so hopefully there's some new content and changes for it. But even if it's just minor, it'll be fun to play through it again.

I'm with ya there..the story for that game was god awful...I kinda liked star ocean 4 , but its one of the few dubbed games that had decent voice actors that did a horrible job at it...Matt Mercer as edge coming too mind.

I love this news...i own the psp version, but i think they should just go ahead an import all of their gaming catalog too the switch...from xenogears too bravely second...come on square enix get too it and take my money.

I mean I'd literally take anything Suikoden at this point it's been so long since we've had a proper Suikoden Game.

It's practically a tragedy that the game pretty much dead.

I used to love Star Ocean until... the 3rd, or 4th? The one that had the "WTF" ending that all the games seem to want to stick with.

Star Ocean 4 is great. Faize is a fantastic character through and through.
But yeah, this is a strange announcement, honestly.
