So, only two countries in the world have access to this series? Brilliant.

I can only hope this doesn't become something that happens regularly. Those prices are pretty unacceptable.

Meanwhile the UK doesn't get the video service until sometime next year, and there's no guarantee that we'll get this series even then. Way to support legal downloads - if I could buy at least the first episode now, I would. As it is I either have to get it via the underground route or just ignore any discussion about the series for months until it is old news. Either way, I'll be less likely to buy it even it the opportunity does present itself.

I don't like the payment option either, but we're getting this a good deal of time before Japan. All the more reason for me to support this.

Japan also gets to rent it longer than the US for a similar price. A 2 month exculsivity should not warrant this type of treatment of US customers. US customers should have the same rental agreement.

Prices still don't make it worth the money.

Another interesting fact. According to an AV watch article on this, Xam'd was the most download thing out of everything that was offered on the launch of the US PSN store. That includes all the movies and tv shows that were also available.

Episode 1 won't tell you much because it's a launch. Most of the threads online were saying that people were watching 1 or 2 episodes just to support the launch and then stopping. And even more were commenting on alternative methods of watching this due to the price in part ($77.74 SD, $103.74 HD for 26 episodes of Xam'd as a rental.). FUNi titles are already on iTunes as well as Astro Boy. They need to report the data after episode 5 probably to see how many actually hung in there with Xam'd.

I don't know, $104 is an awfully steep price for a rental of a subbed only version that only people with $400 PS3's can watch. I can't say I have high hopes for this selling well, and making it exclusive to the PS3 still doesn't sound like a selling point, since that system is failing now due to no (exclusive) games, and Toshiba's BluRay player that will hit the market soon and cost $200.

Just doesn't sound like a good investment, unlike DVDs.

I wish that this was also released to PC. It's great that they're doing this, but some of us just don't have the hardware, including me. I would have bought it in a heartbeat, because I'm completely obsessive over BONES, but it wasn't released to the platform I have, which just happens to be only my computer. If the reason why they aren't releasing it to PC is because of the fear of rips and torrents and the like, well that hasn't stopped people. I've already seen episode one floating around on various torrent sites. I rather not watch it by other means, not seeing it isn't an option, but I only have a computer. *sigh* I only hope that they decide to release to more platforms soon.

So, those of us who will never be able to afford a PS3 are just screwed, right? :/

Upon glancing at its encyclopaedia entry I read this:
Quote:
Opening Theme:
"Shut up and Explode" by BOOM BOOM SATELLITES

Easily the best song title I've heard in a while.

Yes, that's so true. Cause we all know that Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, MGS 4, etc. etc., will all eventually be released on the Xbox 360. Of course.

I'd say it's more a stupid idea to release a Japanese anime series only for download on a gaming console, when there have still been no significant JRPGs even released for said console yet, so who's to say there are even that many anime fans that own one yet? And I'd venture a bet that this will eventually air on TV in Japan. It's possible it won't, but being as it's from Bones, there's a very good chance it will.

PS> And yes, before it's used as ammo, there is a rumor that MGS 4 may hit the 360. Then I can point at Eternal Sonata, previously a 360 exclusive, is now confirmed to be coming out on PS3 in Japan and the US. I may just buy it again.

Are you talking about the PS3 in Japan? If that's the case that's easy - a lot of the people who actually bought the PS3 were indeed anime fans buying it for the Blu-ray and DVD upscaling capacity because it is the most affordable player that does all that on the market right now, and you have hardcore otaku collecting titles like the AIR blu-ray box and Ghost in the Shell which moved a lot of the initial units, and the best selling blu-ray titles on Amazon JP are mainly anime titles. If it's any indication I'd say the PS3 hits the right rich anime otaku market rather than the gamers market at this moment in time - regardless of whether it has any JRPG or not.

I don't think that liking JRPGs coincides with liking anime, but that's just me. But if it does, I'm sure that plenty of anime lovers bought a PS3 seeing as they were probably under the assumption that if the PS2 was a JRPG juggernaut, the PS3 would be too. As of right now, they assumed wrong, but who knows what will pop up in the coming years?

Of course, the above doesn't really matter. Originally I loved the idea what's happening with this series, but after finding out the prices and being rent-only...well, now I'm not so thrilled.
