Ibaraki Prefecture Continues Its Moe Self Defense Force Mascot Campaign

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Last year, Ibaraki prefecture, the home of Oarai city and Girls und Panzer, debuted its moe mascots for the area's Japan Self-Defense Forces' Provincial Cooperation Office. The prefecture is continuing the campaign and revealed its new poster design this month.

The mascots include Hibari (Japan Air Self-Defense Force), Nobara (Maritime Self-Defense Force), and Kōme (Japan Ground Self-Defense Force). The characters and poster were again designed by illustrator Pochi Iida and will be distributed around train stations and convenience stores next month. This year's slogan is "Your own dreams will come true!"

The trio is being dubbed "I☆P's" and cut-outs are already on display at the Self-Defense Forces' Public Relations wings in Hitachi and Tsuchiura. Iida described Hibari as the "naive princess" character, while Kōme has a big appetite and super-human strength. The three characters were considered "equal" when they debuted, but Kōme was elected as the "main character" of the three after the prefecture held an election .
