The live concert event "Kemono Friends Live ~PPP Live~" confirmed on Sunday that production on the Kemono Friends 2 television anime has been green-lit. The new anime's first promotional video debuted at the event — to the surprise of even the performers on stage — before streaming online.
In addition, the staff is holding auditions for a new unit in Kemono Friends. The auditions are open to "mentally and physically healthy" female applicants between the ages of 16 and 20. Regardless of previous entertainment experience, applicants are eligible if they are not affiliated with a production group or agency. The deadline for applying is September 10.
Nexon's original Kemono Friends app game launched in early 2016 and ended service in December of that year — before the Kemono Friends anime even aired. The 12-episode television anime then premiered on TV Tokyo and TV Osaka in January 2017 and ended in March 2017. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.
A second anime season was previously planned but not yet green-lit for television. At the time, the first season's director TATSUKI and anime studio Yaoyorozu were not slated to be involved in the project.
The franchise has also inspired smartphone apps, as well as several stage plays. Video game development company Jupiter announced on Sunday that the franchise is getting a Kemono Friends Picross game in collaboration with Jupiter's Picross series of games. The game will launch this fall digitally only for 1,080 yen (about US$9.75).
