Shōfukutei plays character with appearance in manga modeled after him

The staff of the live-action film adaptation of Norifusa Mita's Archimedes no Taisen (The Great War of Archimedes) manga revealed on Thursday that Tsurube Shōfukutei will play the character Kiyoshi Ōsato (romanization not confirmed). The character is the president of a shipbuilding company in Osaka. He approves Kai's plan and works with him to stop the planned construction of the battleship. In the original manga, the character was named Tsurube Kiyoshi, and Mita modeled the character's appearance on Shōfukutei.

Masaki Suda (right in picture below) is playing the main character Tadashi Kai. Takashi Yamazaki (Stand By Me Doraemon, left) is directing and scripting the film, as well as directing the visual effects for the film. The film opens in Japan in summer 2019.

Other cast members include:

Hiroshi Tachi as Isoroku Yamamoto, the key person who invites Kai to the navy.

Min Tanaka as Tadamichi Hirayama, the naval architect who planned the construction of the battleship Yamato, and who opposes Kai and Isoroku.

Minami Hamabe as Kyōko Ozaki, the daughter of a shipbuilding company president, and who has feelings for Kai.

Tasuku Emoto as 2nd Lt. Shōjirō Tanaka, a colleague of Kai's who conducts the investigation alongside him.

Katsuya Kobayashi as Mineo Ōsumi

Isao Hashizume as Shigetarō Shimada

Fumiyo Kohinata as Sekizō Uno

Jun Kunimura as Osami Nagano

The manga is set in 1933, when the Imperial Japanese Navy is outlining the plans that would set the country on its course for the Pacific theater of the Second World War. The story centers on Maj. Tadashi Kai, a mathematical genius who wages his own war to uncover the truth behind a series of budget irregularities regarding the construction of warships.

Mita launched the manga in Kodansha's Young Magazine in November 2015. Kodansha published the manga's 11th compiled book volume on August 6.

Mita is also known for the Investor Z and Dragon Zakura manga.
