Which I think exposes how fickle and transitory these results are. All the people who liked Azumanga are watching Pani Poni Dash now, so they vote for that.
Bah. "Top X Lists" are always fairly meaningless.

My favorite "Top X List" remains the one we published in PA a little while ago, which was based on ANN's encyclopedia.
It was based on ratings (Good, very good, etc...) rather than rankings. It was also based on an extremely comprehensive list and extremely large voter base.

I'm looking at this new poll and I'm a little surprised One Piece made it to #4. I would've thought Bleach had a better chance at that then One Piece...
Oh, and I'm also getting a deja vu feeling while I'm posting this.
I wouldn't suppose old tempest would be nice enough to post a bit of the PA/ANN list, would he?

The second list looks a lot more realistic.

Bwahahaha. Bleach never had a shot. There is a reason it's 42 on this list. For that matter, Naruto didn't have much of one either. Amongst SJ titles One Piece is king.
I'm happy to see Touch, one of the best series I've seen, is still so popular after 20 years.

Yes, list 2 and the clarification sentence make this make WAY more sense.

Am I reading this correctly?

With 6 Movies and ton of special and tons and tons of episode as well as 30 something volume of manga, One Piece is one of the top manga in japan.
Yet DBZ is still king of all SJ title. One piece, however, is second.

Azumanga was pretty average, but there's so many raving american anime fan for this show.
The list looks pretty accurate to me in term of popularity. All the classic show made it, especially crayon shin-chan, Slam Dunk and doraemon. These are also classic all over asia. Of course all the long running SJ title made the list easily.

Yeah, I was also wondering about the double entry for Cutey Honey. For that matter, I'm wondering why it's even on the list. Decent shows must have been few and far between back in the days of the original Cutey Honey if it's the nostalgia factor playing in.
Interesting chronological spread of shows. The list is not nearly as dominated by new anime as I would have expected.
Oh, and cool to see Moomin at 51. Though just a bit annoyed that it was inched out of the Top 50...

I think out of all the titles track manga-wise(7) only Nana is more popular.
But you got me with DBZ. I meant currently serialized. Though, One Piece is set up to knock DBZ over eventually. Actually if you go by total sales isn't Kochikame second. I'd have to dig up that info again (it was old, though), but I think it lead by a OP by a decent margin.

I'm surprised and very glad to see that LoGH made it to one of the lists. I know that the novels were (are still?) very popular, but the anime being an OVA (iirc it was shown on TV only once, some years ago), I wouldn't have thought it had any chance.
Also, it's good to see that the old classics are still considered as such - Rose of Versailles, Candy Candy, Galaxy Express, etc. are all on the lists, and some of them reached a very good score.

Both Lupin III and City Hunter are both on the lists. So where's Cowboy Bebop?

Bebop wasn't as popular in Japan as it was here I heard.
I'm still a bit confused with Ultimate Muscle and Zatch Bell. And now I'm intrigued to check out this Pani Poni Dash show

I think the popularity of Moomin for Japanese audience
is come from early series(1969-70, 1972).
But I heard early series was not welcomed from original author
Tove Jansson.
