OMG I thought Media Blasters was dead! I'm totally shocked that they are still alive and have just licensed the godfather of yaoi Ai No Kusabi! This is the BEST DAY EVER! GREAT JOB MEDIA BLASTERS!
I hope this series actually gets released....

Save MB some money that way, I'll be fine with that. The men can suck it up and deal, like how other sub-only fans do. |
Dubs almost always increase sales - my point was that the effect was likely much stronger in hentai(which has to compete with the rest of the porn market) than yaoi(which has an established fanbase for what it is).

I'm so buying this!!! |
They WANTED to make it 13 episodes long, but they decided to cut it down to 4...sadly. But I heard it was a really good seller...you know, for a yaoi title and all. Sadly, there is a reason why yaois hardly get made...because people normally won't fund them and the animation studio normally puts up the money themselves.

One: That in itself is phenomenally great new! Two: While not as in-depth as the original anime, I still enjoyed this remake; it retains enough of the twisted "guilty pleasure" aspects of the original to be entertaining, and it's animation quality is surprisingly high. Funnily enough, I found the future/sci-fi technology the biggest joy, visually.

...What the freaking hell!?
Really?
This world gets weirder and weirder every day. I mean yeah, instant buy but... AnK 1992 needs to come over, too. But it won't.
Oh and guys, the new 2012 OAV is much more graphic than the original. Still baffled by this license.
Ai no Kusabi 1992 is so beautiful and one of the shows that had me literally sobbing. Still have my old fansub VHS.
And huh? DMP is still putting more novels out? I thought there were only 6 volumes they split it into... guess not? O_o

This will be a day one purchase for me. While I was disappointed that we did not get the whole 13, what they did in 4 was remarkable. I still hold the original 2 in high esteem, and have watched my old fansubs to death, this new release should be a great placeholder for my dreams of the original to come over. Also Zetsui/Bronze. Even a double pack would be great.

This is nice and all, but:
Bakuman
Record of freakin' Loddoss War
'nuff said...
At least they still exist, and they licensed a halfway decent title...

They finish dubbing Bakuman, just trying to release it in half season sets, so it's Japan giving them issues about it. And the masters for Record of Loddoss War were lost, so they can't do anything about that.

This news makes me both so happy and so down-right afraid at the same time...
I live in Finland see, that's a different region, so I'm praying, begging on my knees that you'll release this region free! I really want to support the industry and this series in particular but that's all pretty moot if I can't watch it! Please, please, please!
Otherwise I guess I'll have to buy the japanese releases without the subs after all... But I'll keep up hope you'll make the right choice! There's a wide market for this and it'd be a pity to miss out on it!
The Ai no Kusabi remake is seriously, no-kidding, without a doubt the best anime of any genre I've ever had the pleasure to watch. I want this so bad, please!!

Bakuman was always planned to be half season releases. The problem, at least according to Media Blasters, was that the first set didn't met expectations. They were attempting to renegotiate their deal with the license holders in Japan, but who knows how that has gone.
As for the dub, apparently both seasons are dubbed. But according to the same NYAV post who stated that, Media Blasters still hasn't paid for or received the dub for season two.

They still had plans for re-releasing Lodoss War, so why isn't it on my shelf? The Central Park Media boxsets aren't exactly easy to come by, or pay for, you know! I don't care if it's not super-mega-ultra-high-definition!

At least Media Blasters realizes WHY it didn't meet expectations. If this was Viz, the show wouldn't have a ghost of a chance of being continued.
I guess this might be why Media Blasters got Bakuman instead of someone else: they're the only ones still willing to do singles. Hey, at least we got an NYAV dub out of it!
Man, Bakuman's had some horrible luck in the US! I haven't been able to watch past the 7th episode in MONTHS! I just hope Media Blasters can negotiate with those goddamn Japanese license holders sooner than later.

When michael said season 2 he might of been refering to the second half of S1 but who knows though i recall him saying something along the lines of it being dead might just be my imagination though.

Because they don't HAVE THE MATERIAL to make them. You can't make any copies unless you have the master copy from Japan...which they CANNOT find. It's that simple and that's why it was dropped.

I have no idea how that quote got attributted to me, but okay. And that's not entirely true. There are masters for the series, but they are of extremely poor quality. The original film masters are lost, and all that's left are the DVD and VHS masters. Media Blasters states if they did release it, their DVDs could end up looking worse than CPM's release.

He meant the actual Season 2. Media Blasters has Seasons 1-2 licensed, and while they have commissioned English dubs for both seasons, they've only actually paid for one (though the other is still completed, Media Blasters can't do a damn thing with it until they pay for it).

That quote was actually mine. Anyways, just because the ORIGINAL masters don't exist, doesn't mean that MB can't do anything with the series. They could get the same digi-betas that Central Park Media used, and while the quality wouldn't be the best, it would still keep the show available. Media Blaster's Fushigi Yugi set isn't much of an improvement from Geneon's release, but at least the series is still readily available for us to purchase.
