No one has said that. All we know is that we are getting Bo^7 on DVD, nothing more, nothing less. |
haha...you said Bo^7
Yeah I hope we're getting a subbed version as well, but I'm pretty much just happy with the fact that the series is being released here in the first place...I didn't see that one coming. I'm pretty sure I showed the first ep to one of my roommates when it came out and we both concluded it was random as hell and wouldn't be shown on tv here. Who knew.

I can't imagine them paying for the dub-only version, unless Toei was charging a fortune for the sub. And I don't see Bo^7 being as big as One Piece or Sailor Moon, even if it's more popular in Japan than the U.S., so a bi-lingual dvd should theoretically be no problem. If 4Kids got the home video rights, it'd obviously not be released with a Japanese track, and with Viz, I'd give it about a 50% chance. So I'm almost 90% sure that Illumitoon would buy the Japanese version, especially since they know that this isn't really a "kiddie" show, and only the hardcore fans would go for it.

Nevertheless, whatever format it's released in, I will finally have Bo-bobo on my DVD shelf!!
I may actually buy an Illumitoon product now...

BOOM!
That's what he said!!
But seriously, folks...
When you think about it, if any DVD release only had the TV broadcast version, it wouldn't be so bad. The truth is that Bo-bobo is actually a special case. For the dub, many of the jokes have had to be changed because of differences between the two languages (and I don't mean "JavaScript" and "Klingon" either; besides, Bo-bobo is "black and nerdy"...). For instance, Beauty is known to bemoan the fact that she "doesn't understand Japanese"; this is specific to the dub (which incidentally for all you Toonami not-so-faithful, intentionally retains ALL on-screen Japanese text...well, except the opening sequence).
Anyhoo, nobody said anything about any "Dee-Vee-Dee" release, just that the two companies in question had "aquired" it. Also, I'm guessing Joy...something-or-other, are the ones that the (no longer completely) Cartoon Network are getting it from. After all, Phuuz just dubbed the show (and I pi' the "phuuz" who'd think otherwise).
Oh, BTW, "Phuuz" is pronounced "fuse". One more thing, don't expect a subbed only release, otherwise this show is "Snot Fo You"! 'Cause Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is the King of Wiggin Specialists (even if he's really the King of Hajikelists)! As a certain wrestiling "snake" guy once said, "It's not the beginning of the end, yet the end of the beginning".

I hope this does decently. If Bo doesn't start doing better than I doubt Puyu to Fukuu Faguar will ever get licinsed. I wanna read it.

Well, I'd agree with Steventheeunich on this. Especially, when you read their website statement.
Illumitoon website wrote: | Illumitoon is focused on acquiring kid friendly properties that are “placeable” in the North American market. That is, properties that, in addition to having an inherent appeal to a general kid audience, are friendly towards the North American entertainment standards and poised for greatest broadcast placement. With an increasing number of alternatives for the viewing public, it is imperative that entertainment content be as adaptable as possible. Illumitoon seeks to maximize its presence in existing as well as emerging media |
This is by default a children's title ("kid friendly") and could see a dub only release first, like Naruto and One Piece imo.

BOOM!
That's what HE said!
Uh, you do know I'm referencing the show, right?
Otherwise...I'll make you eat grilled tofu dipped in miso on a stick!
Trust me, it's much better than Chikuwa...er, I mean Churros.
And that's because...
I'M A TORPEDO!
(actually, I'm a hamster...)
One more thing...

ARE YOU SERIOUS!!??
You just got to love Bobopatchinosuke's (that is, Bobopatchiggler's) "Super Fist of MA-JI-DE".

It's headed up by Funi people (the 3 execs listed at their site are all from Funi)
But they have also liscensed the long-overlooked BTx. Granted, we won't see BTx until January so we don't even know for sure what we can expect from their dvds-bare minimum/non-existant extras as we often see from Funi & Geneon(Funi doesn't even bother with giving us Japanese cast credits on some titles)? We've at least seen the dub of Bobobo so we know how that's been handled, but yes, we might get a dub only release, though I am holding on to hope we'll get the Japanese track.
And yes, all humor between the different countries is different. We speak the same language in the US as they do in England, yet there's that old bit about Americans, for the most part, not "getting" British humor. And Canadians also have a slightly different take on humor. What makes people laugh varies greatly in the US, for that matter. Jump over onto a different language, particularly one allegedly as fond of word-play as Japan & it would more often go over like a lead balloon. That doesn't mean the delivery of the lines by the VA's isn't fun. The reason Mr. Koyasu is my fav Japanese VA is the way he delivers the lines & no, I don't speak Japanese. He might really be a lousy VA for all I know about his delivery of lines in Japanese, but he seems to have a lot of fans in the US so it appears his delivery works over here. However, considering he seems to be the most prolific Japanese VA according to this site & IMDb, I'll gamble he must be doing something right

If the anime is really like the manga with the amount of blood spewing it contains, these dvds will be well worth it.

DVD wasn't mentioned, but "street date" was.

It isn't. The anime is waaaay toned down. There's no blood in the anime.

And that's because...
Even Japanese shows have standards. Nobody wants to see somebody wearing "ahiru pants" that talk, so Toei made him wear it on his head.

Well...
2 bad 4 U, B-cause it's not a U.S. TV edit (the duck underwear guy wearing it on his head).
Also, "I and I" think that "you and you" need to capitalize the "I" when referring to "you" (NO offense to the Rastafari movement...mon. ).
But, it's not like I was a teacher or anything....
