What's this idea that the West is ruining Sonic? The franchise's story problems, at least, have all been because of Japanese writers.
First of all, no; Sonic X was its own thing. It just threw in some video game adaptations as part of its own story. Secondly, Sonic X may have been truer to the letter of the games, but there's no other cartoon that's farther away from its spirit. Sonic is pure speed and action with a silly "attitude." Sonic X is a depressingly apathetic and bafflingly slow cartoon. I'll gladly take the U.S. cartoons over that. Their quality may vary, but they at least understand Sonic. |

Nothing says silly like the military gunning down an 11 year old girl and causing an inventor to go insane and try to nuke the planet. I don't know about the 'speed' thing though People always have this preconception that Sonic is supposed to be about super high speeds. I mean yeah, sure, that's part of it, but there were plenty of levels in the original trilogy of games where you had to go pretty slow and platform. Labyrinth Zone, Marble Zone, Chemical Plant Zone, Aquatic Ruin Zone, Mystic Cave Zone.. Sonic was just as much methodical platforming as it was speed.
That's how I view Sonic. I like the characters and Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite 3D Sonic and I felt it was when it was at it's peak. Nice balance of interesting characters, and the story had the right balance of action, drama, and humor. Though I do like the Chaotix crew and was happy to see them brought back in Sonic X/Heroes. Their fourth-wall breaking humor in their premier episode by watching Sonic X DVDs and introducing themselves and being cutoff by the eye-catch was funny Overall, not my favorite franchise, but I did like a good portion of it. One thing is though the games have some amazing soundtracks. Sonic 3 and Sonic Adventure 2 being my favorites. |

Wait, I'm confused. Was this directed at my earlier post in the thread? What does Sonic being an international market and not just a Japanese one have to do with getting use to the more humanly-proportionate character designs? |

Nothing, your ignoring the obvious point of my post, you bashed all "non-Japanese" versions of sonic. Sonic isn't an anime franchise. Never was, yes SEGA is a Japanese company, but sonic has always been an international franchise , just like most video game series, be they made in Japan, the U.S., etc. |

Well Sonic Team disagree with you “Our previous series, Sonic X, was made in Japan and influenced by Japanese anime; the main audience it was made for was in Japan” - Takashi Iizuka Sonic Boom is for westerners according to him, not Japan like previous Sonic games and anime. Yeah Westerners can have their cartoons and comics, but to say Sonic isn't a Japanese franchise is pretty dumb. Being a Japanese franchise doesn't stop western companies from doing their own versions of things, but the existence of those things doesn't suddenly make something an 'international franchise' just because there's western versions of it. Even Mario which is far more popular worldwide is still a Japanese franchise and caters to Japan first and formost and you can see it in things like the Tanuki power ups and some of the more 'inappropriate for Americans' content like traps/hermaphrodites/homosexuality and pedophelia in the games. |

Except Sonic X came over a decade after the first game, and Sonic was made with the sole intent of marketing to a U.S. & International market, the cartoons & comics created coherent cannons for the hedgehog before the Dreamcast games or anime did. Sonic is no more a "Japanese Franchise". Then Sherlock Holmes is A British Franchise or Mickey Mouse is an American. Franchise, when something gets to a certain point of notoriety it is an International franchise and belongs to the world, not just it's country of origin. |

Okay, that's fine and I agree completely. But..... I wasn't bashing anything about Sonic the Hedgehog. I wasn't even talking about the differences between Japanese and non-Japanese versions of Sonic. All I said was my thoughts on the character designs. this here is the post I mentioned. Was that the post you're replying to, or were you referring to someone else and typed, "@hyp" by mistake (which made me assume you were talking to me)? Maybe you were meant to reply to this guy instead? I think there was a mistake somewhere because I'm confused by who you were really responding to based on the fact you typed "@hyp" and what you were writing wasn't at all what I said. |

And Sonic Boom is coming out this year, to which Iizuka specifically said this was made by westerners for westerners. Clearly they are differentiating between countries when it comes to creating and marketing things.
So you'd really try to argue something like Dr. Who isn't a British franchise and also belongs to America or something? That sounds like a really big case of entitlement right there. One I sadly see come up a lot when it comes to certain kind of anime/games discussions and why an industry isn't being catered specifically towards their tastes. Merely being popular in other countries doesn't relinquish it's identity and origins and put into some kind of public domain. |

Your ignoring the point of my post, and also misusing the term entitlement, Sonic X came out years after multiple U.S. Toons. That was the point. And no franchise belongs to anyone but the company that made it, but those franchises that have a fair amount of fans from around the world or were made in the first place for a foreign audience are international franchise. |
