I like Future Diary.
Shadow Warrior Chronicles... LOL. That sounds so cliche and lame. Sounds like a crazy action story where the hero goes around shooting and hacking demons. I like Utawarrerureumono more. |

Oh, more power to you. I just knew some people who thought it was "Teh Best Thing Evar" and praised Yukiteru as a totally realistic character. They then said that the psychological aspect was done so well that it put PSYCHO PASS to shame. It's okay to enjoy something that I don't think is good, but come on... |

Just finished an old 2 part OVA called Tomoe ga Yuku! and it was a blast. Chock full of pure early 90s goodness and camp. It's about a 17 year old girl (never mind the ED "Sixteen Revolution" ("I'm sixteen!")) who goes everywhere on roller skates who discovers that the stunt training school she's going to is really training assassins and terrorists!! I really liked the heroine, who is apparently the reincarnation of a warring states era concubine/warrior. Once she gets over her introductory mopeyness from her friend being killed while they were roller skating around and under big rigs on the freeway, she's pretty kickass, if a tad tsundere.
I feel like with the improved animation techniques we've lost something in the process, though it's hard to put my finger on it. There used to be more content and symbolism in every visual because they couldn't indulge in more upfront storytelling. I dunno, there's just this aesthetic in the old stuff that's no longer there. But there's also a lot of melodrama that's so cheesy it's delicious. And then you get wtf scenes like the confrontation between the bad guy and his assassination target (both of which are Tomoe's love interests, with the latter voiced by Kakashi/Nyanko senseis' seiyuu) that turns into an epee duel (!) backed by one of the most romantic slow-dance ballads ever ("I've waited for this moment...We weren't born to hurt each other"). The character designs are kind of horrifying (I've never seen a character with furry irises before), but Tomoe don't care: You go, girl! |

I just finished Ringing Bell, or Chirin no Suzu. Honestly, I was gonna rate the film a Masterpiece before hearing some of the criticism, and they're right. But all of the problems are basically explained by "Well, the running time was too short at only 47 minutes." Chirin's motivations and relationship with the Wolf, and his mother too, should have been expanded upon. Instead, this feels like just the rough outline for a story, but it's still an amazing anime. Especially for the 70's where most anime were just spectacle and nothing else. I give it a sincerely enthusiastic "Good" to "Very Good." It's an interesting tale of revenge, even if it feels a bit rushed.

That's how I'm with people who treat me like an idiot for liking the Dragon Ball series better in Japanese and how I didn't like Attack on Titan, Corpse Party, High School of the Dead, Madoka Magica and RahXephon (I think it's one of the worst anime that I've ever seen). |

I can watch Dragonball in either language despite preferring the dub. I sure as heck don't think you're STUPID for liking it in the original more. Some people let their nostalgia control their lives or something. Um... you have the right to like or dislike whatever, (and I personally like Attack on Titan, HOTD, and Madoka just fine), but Corpse Party was never all that great. It was just sort of mediocre gore porn. Why would anyone get on you for not liking that? |

Well, lately i'm mainly watching the first season of Gintama. At the beginning it felt kinda lame at some points but my friend, who was pushing me to see more of this show always said: if you DO manage to finish the 300 episodes - or heck, 150 episodes - I can almost guarantee it will be one of the best experiences youve ever had! And hell he was right! There are just a few episodes left until i can watch the second season and i just can't wait to see the newest season wich started airing yesterday.

So, I just finished plenty more Fushigi Yuugi. Lets start with where I resumed. Nuriko died at the hands of... um... whatever his name was. Honestly, he deserved better, as the only good character on the show, and I thought that the general nature of his death was well done. I only had one complaint about the scene and that was the INCREDIBLY emotionally manipulative BS where there's a montage of Nuriko in Miaka's world with her. No one is imagining this, so it's just a clip show to try and get some emotion out of the audience. It's like Yuu Watase is jumping in your face shouting "ARE YOU CRYING YET!? HUH!? HUH!? HUH!? HOW ABOUT NOW!?"
Nuriko will be missed though. I honestly liked the death's emotional weight behind it. It was a nice touch to have the main characters go through the whole "Something feels... wrong" cliche of sensing the death of their friend. I don't like Tasuki being the emotional guy in denial though. He BARELY knew Nuriko and certainly wasn't all that close to him. It feels a little forced, as does everyone responding like they lost a big part of their team when really, only Tamahome, Hotohori, and Miaka should care. Oh, of course Miaka ruins the scene by being WAY too childish about the whole thing, nearly wringing Tamahome's neck while shouting "He's gonna be okay, right!? You know Nuriko won't die!" This is so stupid it hurts. Dammit, Miaka. They're all suffering. Don't act like you're the only one who cared, you dumb bi- phew. Almost said something I might regret. And then... right after showing some moderate promise, the show goes to utter garbage. So, get this... apparently you can drain someone's power by... haha. Sorry. Lets try that again. So, in Fushigi Yuugi, you can drain a person's life force by.... HAHAHAHA! No, seriously. You can drain a perso- HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Okay, sorry guys. That was very unprofessional of me. Let me try again. You can drain a person's life force in this world by... having sex with them. -.- This is a legitimate plot point because Yuu Watase is a gosh darn child. Okay, so the old lady who told Miaka that she must be a virgin in order to be the priestess of Suzaku shows up and tells her that if she... screws Nakago... she can drain his life energy. Turns out this was a trap by Nakago to get her alone and... rape her, except not really. Oh, by the way, there was NO foreshadowing that old lady exposition was a fake at ALL, so I'm calling that a narrative cheat on the writer's part. So... Nakago goes ahead and just molests Miaka in such a way that she freaks out and doesn't even realize what just happened, making her think she was raped. Tamahome finds her, understands the situation, and doesn't hold it against Miaka at all because it was beyond her control. In fact, Tamahome seems too forgiving for someone who dealt with yet ANOTHER of this idiot's "I'm gonna leave the group without telling anyone because it's so selfless and won't cause trouble for anyone, herp derp" outbursts. How does Miaka, our outstanding protagonist, respond to Tamahome's undying love? She punches him as they're bathing together and constantly pulls the "Don't talk to me" card of stupidity to try and seem like she feels guilty about not letting Tamahome be her first time, when really, it just makes Tamahome feel like garbage for not looking after her... even though she SET HIM UP TO FAIL in that regard by running off on her own again. Ugh... Oh, and she even says that now, she can't get married to Tamahome... to his face. What a horrible protagonist. And now... what's his face from the... um... Seiryuu Seven is trying to make Miaka forget stuff because he's a poorly written loser who actually likes Miaka and Yui despite them being intolerably stupid and mean-spirited. Oh, I don't mean those are their respective flaws. Both of them are equally stupid and mean-spirited in their own ways. And also... I'm still having my time wasted with segments of Miaka's brother and... some dude. This may as well not even be an Isekai anime for all the freaking good it does! Why can't Miaka and Yui just be native to... Ancient China(?) when their status as natives of Japan NEVER comes into play? Ugh... this is stupid. |

Turns out a lot of people on MAL really like that anime. It has a 7.11/10 on their website. I had people on that site got mad at me when I give it a 4/10. I think the animation and the death scenes are the only good thing about it in my opinion. |

Glad you enjoyed Chiririn's Bell, louis. Like I said, I have much respect for that anime.
It shocked and tore my heart out. Who would have thought a child's cartoon about a baby LAMB could freaking do that!?
o_o You make a REALLY good point there. When I first saw it, I thought Nuriko was imagining it except.......HE WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT MIAKA'S WORLD WAS LIKE SO IT MAKES NO SENSE. Yup. Trying way too hard, Watase. Er wait....this probably wasn't a Watase thing....the anime just threw it in there. Still, trying too hard, anime.
That kills me too. HOW STUPID!!! Your reaction is gold.
Good grief, I hate her. There are ALL KINDS of problems with this, first of all, (spoilering for mature subject here)spoiler[rape is supposed to be....unpleasant. It should hurt like hell, especially for a VIRGIN like her because reasons......it should hurt like hell AFTER it's been done, she should be BLEEDING or at least be in pain if it actually happened. Yet she doesn't think about that crap at all; she ASSUMES he raped her in her sleep even though she physically felt nothing and still feels nothing. ]GODDAMIT SHE'S SO STUPID. It also feels like Watase herself either never did her homework on this (which is foolish and irresponsible).....or she purposely wrote Miaka to be this stupid because WE CAN'T HAVE ENOUGH DRAMA BETWEEN THESE TWO DUMBASSES "IN LOVE", RITE. WE NEED MOAR. Just constantly running away and screaming each other's name back and forth wasn't enough, I guess. |

NOT SEEN THIS ANIME, but to quote wiki about Fushigi Yûgi “its original serialized form from May 1992 through June 1996” Lots have changed with the world since the invention of the internet, in my childhood (60-and early 70s), I can`t remember fearing about gang violence where teenagers use guns or knives or felling it was unsafe to walk the streets it night for getting mugged or worse. I`m pretty sure that the modern 16 year old are more sexually educated now, and they could make my 16 year old self run home in shock , whether that be good or bad. All the troubles was probably still there, but we didn`t know about them to fear them. Sometimes I wish that I was 16 again, but when I think about it harder I really don`t . OR It could be she was like this girl from this video on what rape is :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpbeSgMl434 |

Lol, no, peter a, I don't think being set in the 90s can excuse Miaka's idiocy.
It's common sense that you would feel something...plus Japan included sex education during middle school back then, I'm almost certain of that. |

I'm at episode 10 of Zombie Loan - I found the plot interesting and I'm hoping there's a second season. I'm going to read the manga as well if there's one.
I'm at episode 3 of the extended edition of Psycho-Pass. It's interesting but I'm losing interest. If it keeps going like this, I'll probably drop it. |

Ooooo, a fellow Zombie-Loan fan! It was one of the shows I watched fairly early in my anime career about seven years ago. Sadly, I don't think there will ever be a second season since so much time has passed since the first season and three ovas came out. Would love to be proven wrong. And there is a manga, which I own, but have not yet gotten around to reading. The series is finished and there are 13 volumes in it.

Took a break from Fushigi Yuugi torture to go to the movie theater and watch the newest One Piece film, One Piece: Film Gold. It was amazing! I highly recommend just watching this film even if you're not a big One Piece fan. There were a few Easter Eggs to appease fans, like cameos and a few pointless, yet exciting appearances (WHY WOULD YOU HAVE SABO AND ROB LUCCI FIGHT AND NOT SHOW THE AUDIENCE!? HOW CRUEL!), but I think it is very easy to follow without extensive knowledge on One Piece. Let me put it this way, if you know what Devil Fruits are, and are okay with Late Arrival Spoilers such as who joins the crew, you will be able to enjoy this movie.
The dub, which is the only version I watched the film in, is GREAT! I think Funimation put more effort into the film than the show. I mean jeez! They even had a pretty catchy dub song near the start. It was like mixing one of the best Lupin the 3rd movies or specials with the best of One Piece. It was a totally fun movie, not really trying at being serious or dramatic, but it's way more exciting to watch than your average Shounen Jump movie. I would put Film Gold ABOVE Battle of Gods from DBZ. I don't wanna spoil anything, and I'm a little tired from just getting home from the drive watching it, but let me say... I rate it Excellent. Also, Carina is a blast. I won't spoil it, but you won't see what's coming with her. |
