On my keyboard it works just with the left alt though; right-alt+hyphen types a ½

Still not working for me, for whatever reason. Both left and right Alt produces nothing for me. Using Firefox 66.0.5 (don't have Chrome right now to test it).

Still no problem, tested in Chrome & Firefox, Windows & Linux. What's your OS?
Did you type correctly?
In the searchbox at the top:
hold down Alt
press hyphen (either upper row or keypad)
release Alt
press "o"

Oh, I'm doing it now. I guess the issue was I was not releasing Alt before pressing the vowel.
