I see the success of Black Butler meaning that the anime should be right around the corner. I watched a few episodes way back when, but it never really grabbed my attention. I'm thinking of picking up the first manga volume, though.

The manga is very good. A lot of people seem to complain about the anime, but the manga is very cool. It seems the anime launched too soon because the manga runs monthly so there just wasn't enough product to anime, or they were shy about animating the story.
It has a dark side-not horrendously gory, but the topics have touched on Jack the Ripper & child abduction for darker purposes (as opposed to ransom). The circus story some suggest is possibly going to be animated as an OVA is pretty dark if they play it out to the conclusion. The bargain between Ciel & Sebastian is also not the typical bargain for power, fame, fortune, etc. Depending on the audience the anime was shooting for, I could see them being squeemish much as the InuYasha anime originally skipped the Peach Man as too dark a tale to be included in its original spot of the story. |
