That's unless you're a fan of the Key-like melodrama line in which case Anohana was the best, but that was produced by A-1 Pictures with director Tatsuyuki Nagai, whose other achievements include Toradora and Ano Natsu de Matteru.

And I've seen some seen some good to excellent adaptations where Mari Okada has been involved in - namely Toradora (good) and Wandering Son (excellent). But really, you can't give Okada too much credit for that since she didn't write the original material - that should go to the original source creator.

First things first, Toradora! and Ano Natsu de Matteru were done by J.C. Staff, the studio that gets bashed almost as much as Mari herself, not A-1.

Second, the parts of Toradora! that she adapted include the final couple of episodes, which vary significantly from the light novel. While I like the details of how the light novels end better than the anime spoiler[I'm warning you, it really, really is a spoiler. If you don't want to know how the light novel ends, stop! right now! don't click that button!spoiler[Taiga mom and step-dad rent a house down the street from Ryuuji and she comes back for their Senior year. It ends with them going to the opening ceremonies, with plans to spend their last year of high school together and she makes it clear that they will be getting married as soon as possible after graduation!]] the fine details and execution of the final episodes of Toradora! are some of my absolute favorite scenes in all of anime. In particular, one of the most romantic, sweet, and passionate kiss scene ever drawn! That was Mari's work, not the original author. (Her version is good, but very different. I prefer the anime kiss over the novel kiss.)

I haven't read Wandering Son, so I don't know how they compare.

Sounds great. One of the best studios, artists and script writers all working on one project? This should be one of the biggest hits of 2013.

Never said Toradora and Ano Natsu was A-1, only Anohana. Please read more carefully.

And yes I'm well aware of how much JC Staff gets bashed. But really, they do largely deserve it. Long gone are the days when they made stuff like Azumanga Daioh, Honey and Clover and Nodame Cantabile.

But you do realise those are adaptations though right? I agree, Okada in adaptations are usually safe but give her freedom to write anime original material in even adaptations (see the latter half of Fate Stay Night or Black Butler S2) and she'll go ballistic. And once again, should you really credit for ADAPTING something over the original source creator? And her anime originals are also very schizophrenic.

No,neither Simoun nor new Lupin 3 are adaptations, and if you count Black Rock Shooter as an adaptation then you need to congratulate her cause she has improved it a LOT!
EDIT:Also I said that she can create really bad anime but when she hits she hits hard.I am not a fan of her,I just think that she can write some pretty great and creative stuff.

So, in summary, I'm very familiar with her involvements and I can tell you, in this past year she's been a total mess. Black Rock Shooter, Lupin III, Aquarion EVOL, AKB00048. All have been anime originals, all were pretty awful. Which is exactly why I'm pessimistic here because she has Buruki's character designs to write her characters with, which most likely means perv/bad fanservice.

Ok for some reason when I was reading your post I apparently didn't see that(mostly cause you edited it later ).If you think Lupin 3 and Black Rock Shooter are awful you and I have pretty different taste,so this is where the discussion ends. From your first post I had the impression that you didn't see some of the stuff that I liked.

They had me at P.A. Works. Their stuff isn't always top tier, but I've always found it consistently good. More so than other studios. So, I'm in. Having Buruki do the character designs is only a plus in my book.

That's cool and I'll end it here as well.

Tastes differ, but at least you now see where I'm coming from when I say Mari Okada is a huge turnoff despite me being a big PA fan. Many people base predictions on studios. I do too to an extent, but to me its always the directors and writers that are the most important because they make the show.

Same reason why I refuse to watch Hiroyuki Yoshino anime originals (Code Geass R2, Mai-Hime, Mai Otome, Guilty Crown), but unlike Okada, this guy is a menace for adaptations too - Dance in the Vampire Bund, Sora no Woto, Accel World...

Sorry, I read that as
"A-1 Pictures, with director Tatsuyuki Nagai, whose other achievements include Toradora and Ano Natsu de Matteru." Thinking that the "whose" that had "other achievements", was referring to subject number 3 in the sentence instead of subject number 4... (my brain added the comma... My bad).

Well, personally, one-third of my "top 15" list (which needs updating...) are JC Staff. All of them, with the exception of the original season of Shakugan no Shana, are more recent than those.
(They are Toradora!, Otome Youkai Zakuro, Ano Natsu de Matteru, Shakugan no Shana, and Okamisan and Her Seven Companions). And when I finally get around to finishing the last season of Nodame, it will probably knock whatever is last on the list off... I don't see that their quality has dropped that much. Sure, they also do things like "Arcana Famiglia", but they are a prolific studio. Not every show is a masterpiece.

PA Works is quickly gaining on them though... (I still need to watch True Tears...)

As for this particular show. Am I reading it right that it is an OVA for a special event for Dengaki Daioh? If so, it isn't that big of a deal. A one shot. Hopefully they will do it up right, as it is for Dengaki Daioh's anniversary, and it will have some seriously good art! That is mostly what I look to PA works for! Scenery porn! Smile

Denpa Onna's character design mixed with P.A Work's awesome animation? This will be very interesting visually!

... geeze people are already complaining at this project Rolling Eyes

Here are some good points it's from p.a. works, it has the same director as anohana the character desgins is from Buriki who did Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko. Come on people It's an ORIGINAL WORK. No light novel, no manga, no visual novel or eroge source material. This means you will have judge the show based on it's own merits alone and quite frankly I'm looking forward to that.

Mixed bag director, nutjob writer, ugly designer, and consistently mediocre to average (at best) studio.

Will watch if it's a trainwreck or at least comically bad, like a Another.
