I don't like the review. Spice and Wolf deserves much higher praises for the series. Written like a prude preacher, this review doesn't give it justice. I feel like it tried to gain the public's approval throughout the commenting on the ecchi when people want to read about the book. I'm definitely buying the manga for one of the most surprisingly charming anime I've seen in recent years. It's a total different thing and a chance of pace.

So, because the author of the review didn't like the liberties taken with the main character, she is a prude? That is one of the most over-used otaku insults around. Couldn't you have been just a little more original? As a female fan of the anime, the information supplied in this review is useful information. I'm not going to waste my money on something that completely changes the personality of one of the characters.

Turning a wise, strong female character into a fluffy adolescent isn't going to make me want to buy this "version". I'll agree with you that the anime was charming, mostly due to the mutual respect between the two protagonists. So I'll skip this pandering, obvious look-alike. Such a shame the artist/writer of this manga couldn't accept that the source material was beautiful enough the way it was.

Thirding (or however far-ing) the whole "playing up Holo's sexuality" opinion here. Which, in combination with the art style, does make it somewhat more damning. (That, and the whole "nipples drawn in loving details" aspect.)

One nitpick: Holo isn't licking the honey-covered bread in the "am I cute?" manga frame. She's saying it mid-bite (right before Lawrence gives her a light whap on the top of her head), so that description came across a little bit worse in the review than it really was. Given how the manga starts out, though, the mistake is somewhat understandable.
